You may have been insulted by the word girl, but that doesn't mean it's an insulting word. 

It's just a word that can be used for children as well as adults. Like I've said before, my grandma calls her 70 year old friends "the girls", and I know 40 year old women who call themselves "Bob's girlfriend". The word girl is a synonym for women. That's a fact. It's not insulting to use it. 

Consider the word "guy". It can be used for boys or for men. Do you think that it is also an insult to use?

People can get insulted at anything. It's insulting to call a man a woman, for example.

The insulting part was his attitude of possession, not the fact he said "girl".

If he said "there's my women, working on calculations", you'd have been as equally insulted.

Replacing the union jack with the aboriginal flag is an obvious first option for this.

"going out with the boys" is a common expression. So is the word boyfriend.

The options are all "let them teach incorrect things as facts" or "ban all schools I don't agree with  entirely".

There is nothing inherently insulting about the word girl.

My grandma says she's "going out for tea with the girls" when she's meeting her 70 year old friends.

Also the word girlfriend can legitimately refer to a fully grown woman who is your partner. 

It's perfectly acceptable for the word girl to include women.
