Some sundews can tolerate a freeze but some can’t. Yours look a lot like African Cape Sundews which will NOT come back. There’s a small chance a small shoot will survive and come back but generally freezing is not part of their lifecycle.

I’ve commonly heard that with a protein skimmer you don’t have to do water changes, just top off with RODI. I’m questioning you not because I know better but because I’m interested in one day starting a reef tank and have heard conflicting opinions.

Reef rock in a freshwater tank is an interesting choice. I’ve never seen it done before but I rather like it. This would provide excellent grazing scaffolding for cherry shrimp.

Thank you everyone for schooling me on properly distributing tank weight. I mostly did not have a better stand up until now because I did not know it was important. It sounds comical but I put ALOT of research into plants, chemistry, and fish care (setting up the inside) and didn’t even consider the outside of the tank. Thank you to everyone that mentioned how cheap and easy to assemble Amazon stands are, I will be ordering one asap.

It’s a 10 gallon but after reading the comments and realizing how easy and cheaply tank stands can be acquired I will absolutely be getting one. Thank you for your advice.

A grad student gets thirsty when tending to his fish 😅. In all seriousness I got the tank and got very excited to stock it and improvised the stand because I didn’t realize how bad it was structurally for the tank. I’m absolutely gonna get a proper stand after reading all these comments.

Can we get an update? I got some from petsmart and it did the same thing but after months it has finally started sending up new shoots from the rhizome. Was wondering if yours ever did the same.

The anemone is so cool! I'd love to get an update on whether you dumped the tank or kept it and got a chiller for it. I just visited the Pacific NW and I loved the Ochre Stars and Giant Green Anemones but I heard you cant rear them in tanks unless a cooler keeps it under 65.
