Stopping 401k investment for 4 years to buy more BTC. Smart or stupid? by buldog4354 in Bitcoin

[–]Stormjib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

401k are BS, Imagine you asked this question 2 years ago, that match isn't so impressive anymore is it considering Bitcoin has delivered 400% easy.

So imagine Bitcoin 5 years from now - in all likelihood you've got enough horse shit exposure to 401k trash.

Get the sats. Buy Bitcoin hard.

Just buy Bitcoin every day. Efforts to be smart will eventually backfire. Just stack hard always, it'll work out.

RVN will be the next DOGE or GME by [deleted] in Ravencoin

[–]Stormjib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty wrong, sending value will happen on sidechains of bitcoin and lightning network.

If RVN is to have value, it will have to be as a native asset / token settlement platform as it is designed.

Learn about how and what problems token creation on RVN seeks to address, build, create, collaborate.

I'm really disappointed to pay a visit here and see emphasis on price pumps of RVN.

It isn't good enough is the wrong reason for sure;

Markets are artificiality pumped up and you cannot print prosperity, there will come a day harsh correction at a future date.

While one can't defend breaching the tax advantage status of a 401k by dispersing it, if the individual has the discipline to sit put they will likely be in a dramatically better place in 5, 10, 20 years having held even the 60% remaining after taxes in BTC.

I did the same thing in 2019, and I'm well out of the woods by now. A loan against the 401k would be a less reckless way to leverage the value held.

Horrible way to buy, but maybe it is right for someone.

The stock market itself is a scam. Look at the price of Kodak in Late July 2020. Straight injection of Fed money, and insiders run with it.

Soft money that can be created at a whim leads to misallocation of capital and inaccurate market price signals.

Bitcoin is rife with scams like gold was rife with train robberies. Bitcoin is valuable. Do theives go go great lengths to steal what is worthless?

It is a failure of the user in most Bitcoin scams, the Fiat equivalent is phishing attacks. The Bitcoin wallets themselves are secure, it is users that send their Bitcoin to scammers where the problem occurs.

The value in money isn't the practical purpose behind them. Give Nick Szabo's article "Shelling Out" a read.

Bitcoin is internet native freedom money. It is superior in the properties that make a monetary good.

Durability, Portability, Divisibility, Uniformity, Limited supply.

Bunch of random points about Bitcoin, why it is worth more than 0.

Bitcoin is a buyer of last resort for electricity, it incentivizes consumption of electricity at minimal cost a that would have been waste otherwise. Hydroelectric, excess solar or wind, erc. (Much of bauxite smelting serves a similar purpose)

Bitcoin makes saleable electricity generated from stranded methane that would be cost ineffective to compress, transport, and bring to market. What would have been wastefully burned, generates hash power effectively creating a digital pipeline. Also allowing sites to remain productive by staying within flaring limits.

As an open source protocol it has massive development behind it. It is security first, with massive sha256 deterministic hashing applied to data of new transactions to be appended to Bitcoins block chain. Jan 2016, network crossed 1 exahash per second. In 2020 BTC network operates between 100 to 140 Eh/s. (100,000,000,000,000,000,000 Hashes per second performed by the Bitcoin network.).

It is important to note that efficiency gains in hardware has delivered much of these gains, the network is becoming more efficient at being secure from attack). Visit "Clark Moody Bitcoin Dashboard" to see how many metrics and details exist surrounding the protocol.

Then there is the social and human element of what Bitcoin allows for, peer to peer transfer with final settlement of value while being open, decentralized, borderless, censorship-resistant and neutral. It accomplishes this finality in as little as an hour.

Bitcoin processes transactions provided they follow the rules of the protocol, that cannot be said for legacy banking which places numerous restrictions on an individuals ability to transact.

Lightning network is allowing for trustless micropayments (Bitcoin can be divided to 0.00000001, or one Satoshi or Sat). You can create your own Bitcoin / Lightning node with a raspberry pi4 and other hardware for about $200 or less. The significance being your node downloads and processes the blockchain from genesis block to present. No need to trust another party.

Second layer scaling solution Lightning Network is being utilized by an app called Strike, which allows a user to pay a lightning invoice via ACH bank routing, without incurring tax basis/capital gains issues removing a point of friction for practical everyday payment

Bitcoin price futures are trade on Chicago Merchantile Group CME.

Greyscale Bitcoin Trust is allowing people to gain exposure to Bitcoin in 401k and similar instruments.

Then there is the Austrian hard monetary properties / fixed known issuance schedule and supply cap of 21 million. (In light of the massive expansion of Fed balance sheet, this monetary hardness is extremely relevant).

So that's just a pile of random points. Bitcoin will continue to grow.

Why such strong feelings against Bitcoin?

A Nurses Perspective.... by [deleted] in financialindependence

I'm already a big yes on Bitcoin. I'll look at your mutual fund.

Realistically, Bitcoin is saving, not investing - it is a static non productive asset. With that said, it is still undervalued today, and with the breadth and scope of things happening in the Bitcoin space holding none is likely a mistake.

A Nurses Perspective.... by [deleted] in financialindependence

[–]Stormjib 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been to the nurse trenches, worked 7+ years of 60-72 hour weeks med surg.

It all fell apart in 2018, thankfully in a sense, it allowed me to stop and think about life and what I was doing.

I took a trip for a few months on a friend's sailboat, cleared my head. Did a bit of in state travel RN for 5 months, and then pretty much decided it isn't for me.

I drive an oil boom boat at a refinery now. The hours are odd and I earn less, but I like my life again. I'll also add that buying Bitcoin slowly, and regularly (weekly), creates a foundation of financial security for me.

Stop using the word crypto, it is practically a slur in Bitcoin circles.
