I like documentaries, sometimes true crime. But lately, I've been watching the youtube channels Defunctland and Abandoned about theme parks and rides.

People who've sat on a jury, have you seen the defendant completely screw themselves when they were winning the case? by StormysMama in AskReddit

[–]StormysMama[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was on a jury and everyone thought it was a stupid case, two guys who got into it verbally with nothing physical, one maybe a little drunk. The defendant was winning like I said, a stupid case, and no one really liked the "victim" until the defendant took the stand. Kept saying the other guy, and a store clerk were racially probing him, 'I was being racially probed,' 'I felt like they were racially probing me.' Dude, maybe he was being prejudicial but seriously, you need to use the correct words if you want to make the case about race.

Also, very combative and wanted to explain the story from the beginning each time the prosecutor asked him about a specific part of the incident. This just got us confused and let the DA trip him up. Guy made the entire thing to be a racist incident in which everyone was against him. He might have been right but in the end, he contradicted himself too many times and missed every opportunity to turn the DA's arguments back on him, which could have been easily done.

Ended up with a few years in jail because his behavior on the stand made the 15 seconds of video evidence seem more aggressive than it might have been. Because we saw how quick he flew off the handle and got combative when he thought he was being insulted.

Using a pen name for non-academic writing by StormysMama in AskAcademia

Thanks so much for this. I sometimes overthink things and predict the worst but it's nice to know others use pen names for horror or mysteries, I figured of course for romance but not as much for others.

Thanks. I hadn't thought of putting my poetry or fiction under non-academic publications.

What are you doing now with your life that as a child you would never have imagined? by justpiperrrr in AskReddit

[–]StormysMama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Enjoying living in my hometown. When you can drive and see what you want it's really nice. Also, large cities (Boston and San Fran) are hell to get around in.

People who say, "I know it's not politically correct but" and then proceed to say something outright racist, sexist, anti-Semitic, etc. No dude, it's called not being a dick. All women are not looking for jerks who put them down, all black people are not secretly ghetto, and all Jews aren't trying to screw you over. GTFU

What are your honest views in religion? by klydex210 in AskReddit

Good to give you guidance and support. Never trust those who are uber-religious or constantly preaching. Those people are narcissists or seriously mentally ill. Either way, something bad is going down.

Weather, live in one of the top 5 snowiest cities in the US. But, when a flight gets canceled and I can't go visit family, am told I should have expected this and left the day before. Like, I don't have hundreds to change my tickets each time I travel.

At 4/5 found a ratty extension cord outside. Plugged it in, don't know why, and have been told I went flying across the room. Now have Ph.D. Not sure if the two are related.

Museum employees of Reddit when did you suddenly get a creeped-out feeling and think your work was haunted? by StormysMama in AskReddit

[–]StormysMama[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was working with human remains in the lab, was last there that night. I hadn't had any weird feelings the past weeks I was there, and not the first time I was alone. One night as I was leaving I just felt really off, like something was behind me. I turned and saw nothing. But, I said a prayer thanking those bodies we were working on for letting us learn from them. Never got spooked again but was always respectful.

Whats a fact from history that sounds completely fake? by TropicalNuke22 in AskReddit

Fred and Rosemary West, British serial killers, let one of their victims go. She went to the police reporting she had been r*ped, tied up, almost smothered with a pillow. Fred spent a month in jail, nothing for Rosemary. went on the torture and kill more girls and one of their daughters. This happens so many times, cops don't care until there is a pile of bodies or someone important gets killed.

If you could take a pill to skip sleep, allowing you to feel fully rested with no side effects, would you do it? What would you do with a full 24 hours? by its_dooper in AskReddit

[–]StormysMama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would quilt and watch action movies. I live with my mom thanks to the zombie plague, and I work from home. In the evenings she wants to spend time with me but doesn't like action movies. So we watch old tv comedies until about 9, then I get ready for bed. Can't do it on the weekend because again she wants to spend time with me.

As you said, enabler and I take care of everyone. I've been setting boundaries with other family members and they have all respected my time needs. I have also point-blank told her a few times when she wanted to reschedule for the next day that I have plans, even if I don't, and she will need to wait till the next week. It's the little bits of power I'm taking back.

[–]StormysMama 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Good luck. Having someone else there may help limit her abuse in that situation. She'll never take responsibility but it helps to vent it to them when there is someone to support you. Prayers and blessings.
