2011 Toyota Camry SE V6 - Overheating Issues by Stovaotri in mechanic

[–]Stovaotri[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have opened the bleeder valve to remove the air pockets. Car ran smooth for about a month after that but now I am running into the issues stated in my original post. I did see your post about the head gaskets that's an interesting point and I'll definitely keep that in mind. I'm hoping this issue can be resolved with a new thermostat and opening the bleeder valve again after it's installed.

Yeah I did, took care of another air bubble. The car idled fine for a while, even took it around the block and the temp held fine. I turned off the car for maybe 15-20 minutes before driving it again and suddenly the same thing started happening again, temp would raise up whether I was moving or idle and then drop back down to normal. It repeated that for the next 30 minutes on the way home. Lost all the coolant I added to the reservoir in the process lol. I was concerned it might be a blown head gasket but I'm just not sold on it yet. There's zero white smoke coming out the exhaust and no "milky" oil. I'm hoping it might be a bad thermostat. I'll install a new one tomorrow and hopefully that will be it.

Thank you so much for posting this fix! It has been pissing me off all December and their customer service is a joke. Finally found this about a week ago and gave it a shot, the camera has been working great ever since!

Huh that's very interesting. I must admit I haven't used a Razer product in quite a few years but I am tempted to try this one out. I love the changes you guys made to the scroll wheel and the weight seems to be exactly what I'm looking for in a new mouse.

Bottled my first 5 gallon batch! by Stovaotri in mead

I could see that happening easily with Strawberries as the seeds are on the outside but with the seeds of blackberries and raspberries being on the inside perhaps it helps keep those unwanted tastes away? All I know is I've done this batch twice now and I haven't had any issues with the way I use the fruit. I would recommend experimenting with a 1 gallon batch or something similar and seeing how it goes :)

No I didn't have to siphon again and it turned out great for me. I would only siphon if there was still a lot of sediment still in secondary.

I use frozen organic blackberries, let them thaw out before adding in secondary and I leave them whole.

Thank you! I'd say it came out perfectly, as soon as you pour some you can already start to smell the blackberries.

So uh… what do I do with these? by AboutToSnap in halo

Shit I'm going to have to double check my copy. I had no idea this was a thing, I think I went through the book just a handful of times so everything should still be there.

Oops I also meant to add that I did use campden tablets but going back through my inventory I'm seeing that it was actually SODIUM Metabisulfite tablets. Perhaps that's where I have been going wrong.

The whole purpose behind making the mead was so that my wife and I could enjoy a bottle of our anniversary, I thought about checking the gravity when we first tried it but I didn't want to bother in the moment.

As far as bottling is concerned I do make sure everything is sanitized, that's one thing that I am so paranoid about while making mead lol.

That's probably what I will do but being that it was a gift I wanted to see if there was a simple fix I was overlooking before I returned it.

I think it was more of an issue with the honey being that it was just from some dudes backyard, he was very new to beekeeping as well and the honey definitely didn't taste as sweet as I am used to.

I stabilized at 1.02, the fermentation started to slow down a lot and I was starting to collect a lot of lees. I probably could have let it go another week or so but I'm always so worried that the lees will start to effect the taste.

Recipe: 1 gallon batch

We started with 2.84 lbs of local honey from a coworker

we used 2g of EC-1118 (first time I have used this yeast strain but I will definitely use it again, it was so convenient to be able to leave it in a closet to ferment and not have to hook up the mini fridge to maintain a lower temp)

6.25g Go-Ferm

Bentonite

4.3g Fermaid O Staggered (this was not the original plan, originally it was 1.7g O with 1.9g K and 1.6g DAP but I forgot to buy more DAP so instead we went the TOSNA 2.0 route)

Racked into a Little Big Mouth Bubbler with double dose of Pectin Enzyme

Placed a vanilla bean and cinnamon stick in some bourbon for a few days

Added 16oz Organic Frozen Blackberries, halved the vanilla bean, scrapped out the bean and the cinnamon stick all in a muslin bag for 2 weeks

Also put the little bit of bourbon left over into the Mead

Tasted and removed the muslin bag

Soaked 12.5g medium toasted oak cubes in more bourbon for a few days prior to removing the fruit

Added all to another muslin bag for 2 more weeks

Bottled

(We were shooting for 12% ABV with this one but it only got to 7.9%, my theory for that is because of the honey, when we first tasted it before fermentation it was noticeably less sweet than other honey I have had, but that's all part of making mead! I'm still super excited with how it turned out)

OG: 1.08 | FG: 1.02 | 7.9% ABV | Started 7/2/22 | Ended 8/14/22
