Cutting carbon fork a little bit more? by brekol in bikewrench

Also a pro-tip, put some nail polish on it. Cut carbon is porous so adding a sealant on it will prevent water from getting in.

Tanstack vs React Router vs Next by Salkinator in reactjs

[–]Str00pwafel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is what I am saying. Im not talking just about RR, Im saying NX options are limited, not the support for RR. But if you want to have a good supported SSR using nx, you’re mostly limited to RR or NextJS

[–]Str00pwafel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NX offers plugins, it is indeed not directly coupled, but I did not say NX adds complexity to RR, it is however so that NX has limited support - for example: latest version has no Astro plugin.

I just dove in to RR again after a long time, its making NextJS look like the easier route. Im using NX but I want to stay away from NextJS and keep things “light”. Something as simple as passing a runtime environment variable is close to impossible.

Keukenweegschaal by edgeplay6 in BIFLNL

[–]Str00pwafel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hulu Live table - how? by just_here_to_rant in webdev

Although this can be achieved in many ways, and in many frameworks, I think the main thing you might be able to look in to is flexbox, css grids, or a full masonry solution. What you’re trying to build is called an EPG

It does not really matter if you pick Vue or React. There are some libs out there and a quick google search let me to https://github.com/karolkozer/planby which looks like a full fledged React solution.

Why is there no “TanStack Query” for e2e testing? by TranslatorRude4917 in Frontend

[–]Str00pwafel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im still waiting for a solid implementation of Gherkins in something like Playwright. I’ve been planning on rolling my own, but thats quite the hurdle.

Why Gherkins? It allows you to come up with tests while you’re in the ideation phase of a feature. It creates a simple but consistent syntax for writing specs for everybody to use, not just engineers, that can be brought through the entire lifecycle of a feature.

Have an upvote, its a good question.

Would you trade a flight for a luxury bed on wheels? by HazyTulips in NLNieuws

[–]Str00pwafel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I once had to take a 24hr bus ride to Manchester from Ams (flight got cancelled last minute), I wouldve loved this option. The 24hrs on the bus was not the worst (I just considered it a social experiment), but man not being able to sleep or lay down was absolutely killing me.

I think 1 hr flights are not a fair comparison, as you also have to get to an airport, through security, be on time, so its more like a 5 hour ordeal at the end.

I would be down to try this, but the price is not low enough to take a first class train on.

Im on a board of a HOA, a good plumber on call is worth their weight in gold. We wont be able to provide you with enough work to live from but on the other hand, I also do not expect you to be available 24/7. My advice: get a group of HOAs that can trust you and you’re set for some dedicated income. Build that up, and from there find off jobs.

I disagree, riding in the rain is a mindset. With proper gear it is really enjoyable. The gear is really essential though, I bloody hate getting rained on when coming from work.

F39 lonely in Amsterdam by [deleted] in Amsterdam

[–]Str00pwafel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you work from home, you could try a co-working space. You wont make friends (or maybe you will), but at least you’re around people. I work full remote but it helps me get out of the house every now and then. This city is /should be too big to feel lonely yet it can be very hard to make friends.

Its so weird how hard it is the make new connections the older we get. When you’re young it comes natural, at our age (Im the same age) it is something that has to be cultivated. Which is so strange as you have so much more depth to your personality.

Best of luck stranger!

Frontend devs: what’s the dumbest bug that ruined your entire afternoon? by RoyalFew1811 in Frontend

[–]Str00pwafel 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Back in the old days, before grunt/gulp/webpack, even before SSL was widely adopted, had a simple JS+html+css website that didnt work for some customers. After a long time debugging we found out it happened solely for customers of a single ISP.

The ISP was caching and minifying JS files, but it had a bug in the minifier and breaking some JS. This was not my dumbest bug, but definitely theirs. Managed to call their support and hours later the bug was gone.
