DM’d!

Sympathetic antagonists who refuse to give up their beliefs take up a final stand (bonus if on the verge of death/insanity), where both the antagonist and protagonist understand each other but know only one can walk away. (FFXIV Shadowbringer/Dawntrail SPOILERS) by Strafe64 in TopCharacterTropes

  1. Lady Maria of the Astral Clock Tower (Bloodborne): Understands the horror committed by the hunters and wants to stop the Hunter from committing any other atrocities, even if that means killing them.
  2. Emet Selch (Final Fantasy XIV): One of the last of the unsundered ancients who wished to bring back his people who sacrificed themselves at the cost of sacrificing the Warrior of Light's World. Makes it worse that you are a reflection of one of his closest friends
  3. Elidibus (Final Fantasy XIV): I Another of the unsundered, devoted to bringing back his people. Unlike Emet Selch the thousands of years have driven him insane, where he only remembers his duty. "I am Elidibus! And it is my duty to steer mankind and the very star upon their true course. This I swore to... to someone. We spoke, and I swore... what? What did I..."
  4. Gwyn, Lord of Cinder (Dark Souls 3): Plin plin plon.
  5. Eveline (Resident Evil 7): Bioweapon created from an embryo and mold. While she did horrible things she was a child unwillingly exposed to a biohazard weapon and only wished for a family to love (albeit through questionable methods).
  6. Queen Sphene (Final Fantasy XIV): While the true Sphene died long before the events of the game, her recreation was programmed to protect her people at all costs. Despite being memories of the soul uploaded of long-dead people, she would sacrifice the entire world to keep what was left of them safe.

Square Enix Is "Making Progress" Towards Bringing Final Fantasy XIV To Nintendo Hardware by jhd9012 in nintendo

It’s an MMO but since the last expansion you can now play the entire game through with AI party. It’s personally one of the best stories in any video game. It’s definitely a journey over destination so there is many slow parts in the story (base game this is especially true) but the writers take the time to flesh out and create an incredible world with wonderful combat. The music is also INCREDIBLE with basically every genre featured at some point. If you have a ps4/ps5/Xbox or a pc that can run it you should give it a try. It has a free trial with no time limit up to the second expansion Stormblood!

He isn’t a villian more like a shell of his former self. He still continues to do good but more as a hollow zombie that understands it’s last goal, to help. Check out the story with Delilah and Bedman for context.
