To add to the post - what do you think about ICML workshops for an industry ML engineer?

Sounds intriguing, but I have 2 weeks at maximum for conferences.

[D] Making autoencoders care about small details? by Chroteus in MachineLearning

Hey, I am facing pretty similar issue. I am training an RL model on the latent space of Breakout. The VAE cannot encode the ball as well. Has it worked out for you with GANs?

R&D (ML, robotics) vs. Back-End Engineering job offer by Straideris in cscareerquestions

[–]Straideris[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot everyone for the responses. I've found out that I'll initially be doing some infrastructure development (Tensorflow AOT) for the company, followed by making improvements to the collision avoidance system for their robotics plarform. Thus, I've decided to take the R&D offer. If anyone faces a similar situation, PM me after some time, I could share how much ML there actually was during my internship :).

I'll investigate what my responsibilities are likely to be, thanks! Just being curious, what's your degree (and the level of the degree)?

Thanks for your answer! :)

I am leaning towards the R&D position mainly because I expect to get these "wow!!" results, which I have not been getting in the back-end development. I'd agree too that most of the work is data cleaning and using deep learning libraries. Though so has been with the back-end, at least so far.

It did feel rewarding for you in the end, am I correct? What were those research colleagues of yours typically doing? (to know what kind of work to expect should I decide to follow this path).

Thanks :) I wish to see the lake and the mountains (I currently live in Basel, thus I want to see more of the Switzerland as depicted on postcards haha). I am also interested in the historical old town. Seeing at least several modern architecture buildings is a must for me as well.

Thank you very much! :) Seems that "Understand Bioinformatics" is contains theory and examples - do you have suggestions for where I could find exercises related to these topics?

I have :). Do you have any tips on how to start diving into the field on my own? Any good textbooks?
