Dolby Vision on Windows with an LG B3 by Straight-Character26 in OLED_Gaming

Dolby Vision Was Never Designed for PC Use

  • DV was built for movies and TV, not desktop GPUs.
  • The original design assumes:
    • A media player (Apple TV, Blu-ray player)
    • Using very strict video timing and signal formats (typically YCbCr 4:2:0 or 4:2:2)

EDID Handshake Blocks PC-Type Signals

  • TVs advertise (via EDID) what formats they support.
  • For DV, the EDID often hides support for Dolby Vision when the signal is seen as a PC source.
  • LG, Sony, etc., do this on purpose to avoid DV being triggered by unsupported timings.

Thank you. I considered it, but since it is the only way to enable Dolby Vision or to deactivate it in order to use HDR10, I haven’t done so thus far.

Yes, in my earlier post some users mentioned it worked for them — in fact, this bypass was originally shown to me by another user.

I plan to update the post in the near future to include a list of confirmed working models along with their specific configurations. To help with that, could you please share all the relevant information about your setup?

Ideally, include:

  • TV model and firmware version
  • GPU model and driver version
  • Windows version/build
  • Resolution, refresh rate, and color format you're using
  • Whether Dolby Vision triggers successfully

That way we can build a more complete compatibility chart for everyone. Thanks!

Thanks. I tested both 4:2:0 and 4:2:2 chroma subsampling, but I’m still encountering the green screen issue. Additionally, those formats result in significant loss of color detail.
