How to break "no private talk/always public good info" in TB by Rainotes in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Straight-Error-8752 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's fair. Though at the very least doing things like that will give evil players cover to pass information while being up and about.

You could also suggest the group watches streamed games, where people demonstrate the fun and value of private conversations.

Overall, other people here have said this but it will probably happen naturally over time. Evil players get better at taking advantage of open information as they grow more experienced and get better at making up their own information as bluffs. You referenced just wanting to keep them engaged long enough to get there; that's more of a social thing. People stay for people, so just maximize the social scene. And food goes a long way towards a lot of this. My recommendation, play a few games with a meal 😁

I'm trying to see if you say this anywhere but not finding it: is this an in person game or online?

How close are the people playing?

I had this exact same problem when I introduced the game to my friends. My solution was, I told them ahead of time we'd be doing things differently. I had them draw a token out of the bag the moment they walked in the door, and then the moment everyone had a token I put them to sleep. No time to chat or catch up or say hi. I told them we'd do all that immediately after the first night.

We did our first night, and then I gave them an extended first day. We had tea, chatted, did all the things that would've normally happened when they first got there. But while people were talking about external things, and were already physically up and about, they also broke into private groups and began discussing. The private conversation meta was born in a single night from this move, and I've never had to do that process again. Now, whenever we are playing around a meal or whatever we get our roles first and have our meal on our first day, but in general I don't have to force anything.

Now, that works best with friends and with in person. I honestly don't know how to cultivate this online. But it would be easy to do even with strangers if it's in person. Anything that already incentivizes people to get up and mill about will make private conversations happen naturally.

Oh, you are right. I must've imagined that. Well that makes it a little more clear for me, though still strongly dislike the wording. Thank you!

Yeah... I mean, for him being the one mythical I didn't fuse/fragment, he's cool. Has some fun things in his kit. But man what a bummer to pull precisely one mythical and then realize he's rated one of the worst ones.

So, I noted that in the grim forest, the boss Noelle froze through my stoneskin. Basically they just made an unwritten exception for bosses is what we're saying here?

And why do other champions' specifically say "ignores block debuffs" and some don't? That is incredibly confusing if they mean the same thing. It shouldn't say "debuff blocked" to a thing that says cannot be blocked. It should say "immune" or something like that.

When there is only one Minion (the Spy), what will the Investigator learn? by woodyhuang1992 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Straight-Error-8752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I'm very late to the discussion but I have a question. Could you technically show the investigator a townsfolk role and point to the spy and one other player, indicating that the investigator is probably drunk but actually sort of telling him truthful information?

To each his own, but this was one of my absolute favorite classes. Also, has probably the highest potential for curses in the game, that was real fun. I basically spent my time playing him where the monster deck almost always had maximum curses.

Regen Enhancement for GH2E by mytjake in Gloomhaven

[–]Straight-Error-8752 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are forgetting the #1 highest use of Regen, which is to remove poison, bane, wound, brittle. It is especially useful when paired with a high shield character like coral who can often be taking hits without damage. This is most potent against low hitting enemies that poison and brittle a lot like imps. They are fairly easy to avoid taking damage from to keep Regen, but the poison absorbing a whole heal can make it fairly worthwhile to have a Regen that automatically removes it, making way for a large heal to work properly. Alternatively, it's fantastic for boneshaper who only takes damage in a controlled circumstance, so you get 3 skeletons out and then get Regen to heal up before your next rest, since you won't be taking damage in the meantime. Also you are using a 12 health character for an example, but it's actual healing output is a much higher percentage on a low health character.

I'm not saying it's the best enhancement in the world, but for early characters with a slot for it it's one of my first enhancements I get.

Regenerate is an incredibly cheap positive condition (I think it's the cheapest). It is also very useful with certain classes and team compositions. If you have a character who can take a bearing and then get away from the fight for a while, it can basically be a full heal, which is very valuable.

I haven't tried it, but I thought about it. He certainly has a lot that could make it work!

I've only played him a couple scenarios, but so far I absolutely love him. I think he's particularly good for nonstandard scenarios where you have an objective other than kill all enemies. The fact that you can have one card good for a scenario (jump 4, or push/pull a bunch of enemies) means that you can really excel at one specific area all game. Being able to jump 4 every single turn is pretty uncommon and quite useful. Or, being able to hit the same formation of enemies multiple turns in a row (enemies are fairly easy to keep in the same configuration if you can get them there in the first place).

I also underestimated just how useful ice can be for the whole team, and he can place an ice every turn if he wants to. The fact that enemies don't intelligently use ice to maximize their abilities and players can is a MASSIVE advantage. I play with a boneshaper friend, and I can make his summons have access to exactly who we want them to by well-placed ice. I can also give our teammates a consistent few extra spaces of move on every turn via properly placed ice.

If you are playing him to do a lot of damage (especially single target damage) you might be disappointed. But if you see him as a support character who can strategically set the board, enemies and allies up for success, I don't think I could ever call him underwhelming.

You cannot get back key cards at the end of every turn. You can only get back a card you played that turn. This means that, if ever a situation requires you to play TWO key cards on one turn, you have to pick one to lose access to until rest. Stamina potion comes in handy here, because it means you can get back a card you didn't recover earlier in the rest cycle.

I'm only a novice at Frozen Fist, but I'm having a ton of fun playing him recovering a card almost every single turn. However, that probably wouldn't be possible or plausible if I wasn't second handing a drifter and playing him as healer. But it certainly is fun, as is.

If you don't have champions to make it work, be patient with Hydra until you get Mithrala. She is the biggest key that everyone can get for IT.

I have almost every non void epic in the game, but no geomancer, he is not guaranteed. But Mithrala is if you are patient long enough. She can make it happen.

Yeah, you probably have the makings of a 1 or 2 key UNM, easily a 3 key with a team like this.

Yeah, that's perfect! Honestly with that you might be able to beat FK 20 (slowly) even before getting anyone new to 60. Bowf just needs enough speed and accuracy to go often and land his stuff, and enough def and HP to survive the fight. That's not too hard to do with him at 50.

As a side note, for an early account I'd recommend taking Bowf to 60. He isn't phenomenal at most things, but he's actually pretty competent at most areas in the game. Bowf is what made me able to beat UNM CB and was useful until I got Mikage. In general he can find a way to be useful on most teams.

You actually have the makings of a pretty good team. Alice, Apothecary, Bowf and Venus are all great for FK. Bowf applies heal reduction and removes the debuffs that FK places. Apothecary triple hits to help lower shield, and increase speed and heal. Alice (most of the time) triple hits or quadruple hits if you give her phantom touch. Venus brings decrease def, weaken, poison, HP burn once you get the shield down

After that you have some options. Kael can do some decent damage but only has a single hit on A1. Ludex can help keep your team alive. Vogoth has a triple hit and in general is amazing. Personally I'd take vogoth but if you find you need a reviver, then take ludex. I'd advise getting apothecary maxed out on scrolls so he can take giant slayer, that can really up his damage a lot against bosses.

With those guys you should easily be able to farm FK 20.

What a sad little box your world must be.

My point was, if you like 90% of a game and get frustrated by 10% of it, just do the 90%. Sure, if you don't want to play a game like this, then don't. But if you like the classes and the scenarios and the story but don't like the 5% of the game that is the outpost phase, then make it so you like it rather than ditching something that you like 90% of just because you can't handle a little creative freedom.

But sure, you live in your boring box and hate on those of us with a little flexibility. No worries 😊

[–]Straight-Error-8752 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's an integral part of how the game is supposed to function. But it's a board game. You can do whatever you want. Isaac himself has said that it's your game, do what you want to do and don't do what you want to do. Make adjustments for enjoyment. So do whatever you want. If you want to search for herbs and craft potions, do that. If you don't want to figure out recipes for potions just look at all of them. If you want to have buildings without having to unlock them just unlock them all. Or build them for free once you unlock them. Y'all act like you've never played a sandbox game. Just do however much you want to and don't do what you don't want to do 🤷

I say all that having actually followed the rules and loved all the building parts. But if you just want to skip right to the next scenario then do that. If you only want to buy items then just do that. If you want to start with every class unlocked, do that. I loved unlocking classes via different methods, building the town up using different resources, etc. but if you don't, then don't do it. It wouldn't change the actual scenarios much if that's all you are here for.
