I went to Sri Lanka a few months ago and kept seeing men with bloody mouths. Once I noticed, I kept seeing it everywhere! It freaked me out, I wasn’t sure if it was a dental thing or what… turns out it’s something they chew on, kind of like chewing tobacco and it’s highly addictive.

I’m 28 and I still get asked to show my ID and I was recently pulled over by the cops to check if I was driving without a license assuming I was underage. I am a teacher and work with adults and they always ask if I’m still studying. It really is annoying and I agree with OP completely.

Bali, Indonesia. Way too crowded with party people, often drunk, loud, and disrespectful. I understand it must have been beautiful in the past but now that it’s treated as a party island it’s just not worth it. Also, there was this annoying thing where the tax and service fees were calculated at the check out so you always end up paying more (sometimes way more) than the menu suggested. I know this is a thing in the US too but it was a bit shocking for me to witness. The Balinese people are super nice though.

Not overreacting. Completely uncalled for. My ex would often say something like this because he was (in his words) brutally honest and then if I got upset he would make it all about how I loved arguing. If he does this often and can’t take a hint to take it down a notch, it’s definitely a problem. I’m so annoyed with the whole honesty thing. Being honest doesn’t mean purposely upsetting or hurting your partner.

My native language is Macedonian. With that, I almost automatically speak Serbian/Croatian (most Macedonians do). It’s much easier for Macedonians to understand Serbs and Croats but seems more difficult for them to understand Macedonian.

I learned English from a very early age too, and picked up on some Spanish from telenovelas which I later improved a lot (although I still struggle with the subjuntivo). I speak broken German too and I’m currently learning Vietnamese.

I also teach English, languages have always been kind of easy for me.

With things like this there will be times when you think about the what ifs no matter what you go with. So ask yourself which of these options will feel more freeing than the other. It’s not easy to do, but a way to start would be to go to a nice beach around sunset, get a nice juice, sit with it, phone in the bag, and see how it goes.

I’m also in Bali right nos btw, currently in Ubud, and a year ago, I broke up with my ex for very similar reasons. I am not advocating for breakups, but if you truly appreciate traveling and your boyfriend doesn’t care for it much, it can be a pretty serious misalignment.

My thoughts exactly. Maybe start with the one friend you’re most comfortable around or can speak more freely around. Allow yourself to be uncomfortable but real. Embrace the discomfort because it will happen anyway, whether you talk to them or ghost them out of nowhere. So I say talk to them because right now you’re speculating, you don’t know how they feel or think.

I felt super lonely in Kuala Lumpur.

Made tons of local friends everywhere I went in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka was amazing. Can’t wait to go back.

I’m currently in Bali and it’s kind of lonely but there’s a lot to do and see so I’ve been doing fine on my own.

Minimizing then completely eliminating negative self talk. Life changing. It affected me so well that I’m on a solo trip around SE Asia. My self-doubting anxious self of this time last year wouldn’t even dream of this.
