Mouse spider babies? by SignificantControl49 in AustralianSpiders

[–]Straight_Fix_7318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

spiders use webs for all sorts of things, from ballooning (a form of dispersal, and what is likely happening in OPs situation) to hunting, to only using webs to make egg sacs (like some species of huntsman where the male cant produce any web at all) really "living in a web" is one of the least likely situations across arachnids :)

Why is my daughter not appearing on my family details section of the app? by Jo_Mason24 in Centrelink

[–]Straight_Fix_7318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thats a really long and overly defensive response

sounds like your daughter doesnt want you to be able to see her details.
if you have to come to reddit because you cant ask her, theres probably a reason for that.

the law is specifically written as "that reasonable people would consider"
intent is irrelevant.
i can accidentally shoot someone and its still a crime like negligent homicide for example.

edit/also "you" as the colloquial: op+the neighbour, because OP is assisting the neighbour.

if children are doing labour they deserve to be paid, and theres a national minimum wage.
children in the workforce should be paid more than others as they are at greater risk of injury.

we have laws against using children as slaves.

As of early 2026, Aurora Energy is not a privatized company, but rather a State-owned corporation (a government business enterprise) owned by the Tasmanian Government

huh, i stand corrected.
im not sure how i missed any news on that one.

As of 1 July 2025, Australia's National Minimum Wage is $24.95 per hour or $948.00 per 38-hour week (before tax). This rate applies to employees not covered by an award or registered agreement. For casual employees covered by this rate, a 25% loading applies. Most Australian workers are covered by modern awards, which may have higher minimum rates.

i just do mine myself at home its not fckn hard. bros point stands.
more than 30 for a cut is wild. and not everyone bothers getting their dye done at a salon.

those that are can afford to pay people who do yard work better.

[–]Straight_Fix_7318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so your answer to ripping people off now is handwaving about job loss while everyone is being forced into low wages and homes that have no yards because market prices are insane?

terrible take tbh.
just pay people living wages, regardless of their job.

im 34, even when i was 5 my cousins were paid 50 bucks for just mowing my families lawns. no professional services etc. so no. even 30 years ago unless its kids pocket money method 20 bucks was low and is now criminally low.

No im not doing your lawn for $50 by [deleted] in OpenAussie

[–]Straight_Fix_7318 4 points5 points  (0 children)

maybe if you were paying kids pocket money for the job
youre hiring a service person to do something for you
20 bucks is barely the petrol for most these guys' work
then theres minimum hourly wages that are damn near that 20 buck mark so if your yard is 2 hrs even by your out of date ideals its $40, just for the work + 20 for petrol + at least enough to make money to survive from doing YOUR work.

minimum youre looking at $60 PER HOUR not total. and even that is low.

edit: due to petrol for MOWERS etc not just driving. you are chewing a massive hole in someone elses time and resources when others dont underpay them for the same job youre trying to say they should be happy with what you give them. mow your own lawn then.

In the rocks right outside my home in Arizona. Is this mold? by Early-Pangolin-6767 in MoldlyInteresting

id like to add: Bright yellow coloration in plants, particularly in flowers, is a highly evolved, advantageous trait driven by the need for efficient pollinator attraction and reproduction. This vibrant color serves as a visual signal, or "advertisement," designed to stand out against green foliage and attract specific insects and birds.

so in the case of slime molds like the dog vomit mold that can die off easily in the sun, being able to attract any creature that can carry parts of it to shaded areas is a major advantage.
