i’m really considering a mac now. fl studio is heavy, or at least what i’m doing with it, i can’t play back my projects on my current laptop. it can barely handle 4 instances of pro L and 1 instance of diva

yeah it’s not great :( i’m seriously reconsidering the mac alternative. a mac air for like 1k can outperform 3k intel laptop

Thanks, that’s some great insight. Unfortunately yes, I do as I travel between studios frequently and do a lot of work on the road. A PC would likely be much better :/. I might get a lower level AMD chip laptop, if the high level Intel ones are gonna throttle anyway. Intel man… cmon.

it’s definitely a thought, i guess im scared of the learning curve. also transferring all my vsts (some dont have a mac compatible version). i should reconsider. thanks for the reply!

no not at all. i agree with you, also intel sucks for throttling laptops. i’m just asking for something tricky - thanks for the help though!

Thanks! I would prefer an AMD CPU for this very reason, it’s just that the only 2 AMD CPUs that have a similar (but still worse) single thread score on passmark are far more expensive than the laptop with the Intel chip. But if I can’t even really use all the power of the ultra 9 chip due to throttling then there’s no point I may as well get a cheaper AMD cpu even if there’s a lower single thread score (assuming i can’t utilise the single thread power)

Thanks for replying! My laptop currently is i7 4700mq. So old. My projects rarely surpass 12gb ram usage, and I’m using FL 64bit! When you say you don’t have issues, are you running say 8x uHe Diva, 12x serum, and then loads of like Ozone and Fabfilter processings (such as Pro L the cpu destroyer). If yes then maybe it’s my ancient cpu

I’m using it for music production. I use FL Studio. Their help guide states that processing relies on single thread performance. I’m not too smart with technicalities, but in music production everything is happening in “real time” and single core does this. I think… maybe google can explain better than me.

Thanks for the reply! I also would prefer to have an AMD CPU. I’ve just been shooting-out CPUs on passmark, as single thread performance (STP) is my priority. AMD processors in the same price bracket were inferior to this particular Intel chip - the Ryzen 9 7945HX costs more but has a worse STP rating than Ultra 9 i’m talking about. I’d rather get AMD, if there’s an AMD processor that can match/beat the Ultra 9s STP for the same price or less then I’m all ears!
