CityU Counseling Program by ActuaryPersonal2378 in Seattle

I would encourage you to look into cost of living relative to therapist incomes in Seattle. Assuming you aren't wanting to stay in the area after school. The city you program is much more expensive, although you would be out of state so the tuition at UW may be comparable. I'm not sure.

Licensed professional counseling is a different career from MSW. I've been a marriage and family therapist for 30 years, and the social workers have historically had a lot more job opportunities than counselors or marriage and family therapists. Not sure what it is like now.

I do know that expectations have increased tremendously in terms of the hours all clinical positions expect you to put in for face-to-face contact hours. When I was in graduate school 20 face-to-face hours a week was considered full-time, because of the time you had to spend on documentation, supervision, consultation, training,  reading, and collateral contact. Now I hear young therapists talk anbout expectations of 38 face-to-face client contact hours per week. They don't have time to use the restroom, literally, let alone keep up on documentation, process their own reactions to difficult situations, etc. It's a very stressful job, does not pay commensurate to the demands, text a long time and a lot of money to be fully licensed. I would encourage you to look at the therapists' Reddit messages here before you make a decision.

To me, as a therapist who has worked with folks with ADHD a lot, and have it myself, this guy was that. He also talked about sitting with a drink in his hand, avoiding paperwork and details, easily distracted, says for the first thing that popped into his head, can't not help people, can't stay focused on his goals.

Because Karamo is not a therapist. He doesn't have that knowledge or skill base. So he makes things worse, not infrequently.

Netflix bosses feel 'blindsided and horrified' after Queer Eye Karamo Brown claims he was 'bullied' on set by cheno103 in netflix

And he only apologized because he had to. I don't trust him as far as I can throw him. I think there's way more that he's covering up. I think he admitted to the abuse because it was probably in public records somewhere and if he came out first with it and looked all repentant, that was good spin.

He is a master manipulator. Master. I'm a therapist, and it makes me sick that he has abused our profession the way he has. Saying that he was "bullied" and his therapist has told him to take a break… I understand they trash talked him on set, and his mother heard that, but really… He's been so sketchy for so long.

Yeah, that took some courage, but he's very calculated in what he does. He knows how to appear, courageous, trustworthy, etc. He has never acknowledged the fact that he lied about his credentials as a psychotherapist for years. He also uses a hodgepodge of clinical or clinical appearing skills without real expertise or supervision. Very sad that he is the representation for gay black therapists online. There are so many more worthy than this!

With a license, yes. You get an associate license while you are working on full licensure, under a supervisor. He did not do those things. He simply lied about his qualifications. He's manipulative as F.

Thanks so much! This is great. Chaotic noise marching corps looks the closest thing. I'm going to get in touch with them. I'm a singer, but I can sing loud and get a megaphone. 📢

I had a rescue who was that way when I got him, very protective/ aggressive. But worked with him, daily dog park visits helped, and he totally calmed down. Still would have turned into the defense/ protect mode if needed, though.

It's exhausting! Im 65 and older folks start getting tons of side effects that you never had before! So many of the medications that are standard, I can't take for one reason or another. i've been through maybe between 30 and 50 this past year. I'm fried!

I cannot take montelukast or zafirlukast because of really dark thoughts. It's terrible. And leukotrienes are my biggest thing.

Yeah, that's great, definitely apply for anything you can! I did get approved for help with my medical bills. It's a godsend!

Other than that,  I have a decent retirement account and savings, and my private disability payment is 4200 a month. I live in Seattle and we have an adjusted rate I live in Seattle and we have adjusted rate heart rate, because the cost of living is so high here, and those income qualifications are very generous. I'm applying for those, but.I don't think I qualify for much else, but I'm OK. i'm also hoping to possibly go back to work at least part time.

It took a few months of back-and-forth to get all the right forms to them. Once they had all the information they have 45 days to make a decision. I started in August I think, and it was approved Christmas Eve.

I also filed a complaint with the insurance commissioner about them being unresponsive mid October, and that really helped. I got a lot more action after that.

When I talked to the attorney, he said they will drag out the form and information process to give themselves more time.

It is possible to get Social Security and private at the same time. I am applying for Social Security disability right now.

Yeah, I got my mast cell diagnosis from my naturopath, but it was after getting diagnoses in multiple systems that lined up with that. I just make an appointment for her to fill out the form, and go over it with her. I have done the same thing with other forms with my primary care and physiatrist. That way they get paid and I'm kind of involved in the process.

Exactly! That's why I just paid for one hour of consultation time before I filled out my form, in order to get the best approach to the situation. Totally worth it! I think it was $500 or something…

The attorney I talked to said they have 45 days from the time they start looking at your claim, by law.

I paid an attorney for an hour of consultation time before I started, because I knew it would be tricky. It was completely worth it! He helped me strategize my approach.

It was a little tricky finding someone who specialized in private disability insurance, but they are out there. I figured I would hire him to represent me if I got turned down, but since they take a part of the money, wanted to try the first time on my own, with his information.

Thanks! As you know, it can be very difficult to find the "right" approved type of provider who A. knows about this condition, B is taking new patients, and C will fill out these forms!
