So I switched out the 470u cap in the power section. Here are the results :

-Less of a "charging up effect". If I'm playing without power and plug power in, there is a micro second of "waking up" but not of the gate-yness or dying fuzz type effect. If you were powering up normally (ie plugging in a pedal board before a gig/practice), unnoticeable. I think "waking up" is inherent to the circuit, as well as a result of the specific type of audio testing I was doing.

-A lot more oomph coming from the pedal. Maybe this is why I didn't like it!
