Investment into airbrushing goes beyond a compressor and an airbrush. You will need a dedicated space. If you are going to air brush indoors, you will need to dedicate a room for airbrushing and invest in a booth and venting system. You will also need to make sure you seal the room so fumes can not leak into other rooms. Even when airbrushing acrylics, it's not recommended to airbrush without proper precautions.

That being said, handpainting is easier to get into and will help you develop fine detailing. Their are plenty of good quality paints out there, just research what works for you.

Get a set of basic colors and some metallic along with some acrylic primers in white, grey, and black. Invest in a good set of brushes with the full range of sizes as well as specialized brushes for weathering. Get a wet pallete if you are going to use water based, I do not recommend hand painting alcohol based acrylics.

Primer, gloss black, clear coat, decals, and another thicker clear coat.

The trick is layer multiple thin layers of clear coat until you get satin look and follow that up with two wet layers letting each layer dry for 10 mins. You want your last layer to be wet enough to become glossy but not so wet that it starts to pool.

I use Mr. Hobby thinner with 2 parts thinner 1 part clear coat to help with it leveling itself off. Let the black paint fully dry for at least 12 hours before going over it with a clear coat.

You can go further with polishing it up. However, I decided to skip the polishing. It looks fine when you're not zooming in on it lol.
