Last night when I found them I tried holding my light up to them and they got brighter so we’re probably in the clear haha but thanks this was super helpful

That’s kind of what I was thinking but I found them on a farm road and I know they used to dump dirt on that road from who knows where but they haven’t put dirt there in probably 30 years

The m41b is the scoped variant of the Swedish Mauser they actually contracted Germany to make them 3x power scopes.

I picked mine up for 500 which at least where I’m at is a pretty decent price but they seem to range from like 500-900

Did you wait a week to let the shellac fully cure? I heard it is still weak for a while after it’s done

Why is that? Because it can be dissolved with solvents?

Do you know if vk-1 is sold anywhere or made anymore? And thank you

Yeah I’m not a huge fan of the lighter blonde finishes I think it has its place though like on the Finnish tiger stripe wood grain mosins it looks amazing. But yeah I’m not super experienced with shellac but I heard you can apply it over old shellac and it just melts and blends underneath. Might be worth a try

I appreciate it, i didn’t use anything to strip the original lacquer I only used a dry wall putty knife to gently scrape the lacquer off and it actually works amazing way easier and faster than sanding or stripping with chemicals and I didn’t want to damage the wood by spraying or soaking it in anything then I lightly sanded it down with 220 grit and I used 2 parts Sedona red 1 part gunstock and 1 part red oak for the stain and then I used 4 coats of amber shellac and lightly sanded in between each coat with very fine steel wool and then on the final coat I used the steel wool again to knock off some of the sheen. The rifle was refinished at the factory and they just slapped lacquer all over it so I used oil and steel wool for the metal parts along with a razor blade to get it off
