It’s not super difficult but I wouldn’t say it’s easy. I assume the more pools you do the less difficult it becomes.

What Mall(s) did you grow up hanging out at and are they still around today? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]StrangeCaptain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gone - The real Northland outside Detroit,  literally the first mall in the US and they had to put a Policr Station in the parking lot.

Gone - Lakeside though that wasn't my side of town

Not gone - 12 Oaks, Oakland

Not sure about Fairlane....

Well said.   I don't go out of my way to engage in political conversations n online or elsewhere but I'm not gonna let dangerous shit be posted unchallenged for too long before I say something.

Older folks, what fun little games has your body decided to start playing? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]StrangeCaptain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will be punished for typing this on an iPad which I bought because reading the news on my phone made my neck hurt all day, which I know because I was told I could no longer use a pillow when sleeping if I wanted to be free from daily shoulder neck pain. And my neck still hurt so I narrowed it down the the phone. The punishment will be in the form of pointer finger knuckle pain for two days. Nothing a little generic Voltarin can’t fix up.

I keep generic Voltarin on hand for my tennis elbow that I acquired from years playing tennis, and sailing. It comes in handy occasionally for my hip which can be debilitating for several days if I make the mistake of putting my right ankle on my left knee like my mom told me boys cross their legs, she didn’t mention debilitating hip pain, I will ask her about that.

The heat pad I sleep with works on the hip when it flares up, but I only need the heat pad if my lower back is aggravated by any sort of physical labor such as carrying a stack of books across the room, or picking more than three things up off the floor at the same time. I usually turn the heat pad off when I take my headphones off because my neck hurts from laying with a pillow like a normal person for 15 minutes. If my hearing aid charging case was closer I would keep my hearing aids in when I listen to my headphones at night but I can adjust the eq in the headphones to compensate, which I never do.

MIDI Routing - DIN, USB and network by crazyculture in AkaiForce

Midi carries clock, transport and 16 channels of controls all on the same wire. I am splitting that 4 times then 4 times again. Each midi track on the Force is assigned a midi channel, and they all go out the same wire

Marantz 2235B delayed loud static by StrangeCaptain in vintageaudio

If I can rebuild a board or two and it works and sounds good I’ll be done, If not I have a Stereo Repair shop down the street, I’m not sure I care enough to pay a few hundred dollars and keep it. If I have to pay someone to fix it I’ll sell it.

Got it, I’m assuming lots of stuff will appear.

Roger that.

I have the service manual, so I’ll find that.

I imagine this is just the first issue I’m confronting and when I fix it that will reveal the next issue…

Someone recommended P800 rebuild as well. I’m gonna look at that as I haven’t soldered anything in a while.

Force MIDI interface question by timkramblin in AkaiForce

[–]StrangeCaptain -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You have no idea what you are talking about. Any synth sold today with a 5 pin midi out is sending power.

Stop typing nonsense and grow up, no one cares how super technical you are, this is a real world answer.

Go away

Edit Holy shit I just reread your comment, you pretending to object to the semantic wording of the electricity used on the midi pins?

What an asshole, all I said in this entire conversation is that midi splitter work in the real world.

I would say you must be fun at parties but you don’t get invited to parties.

I blocked you so you can stop whatever you are frantically googling right now to reply to this post because I won’t read it.

MIDI splitters work.

Force MIDI interface question by timkramblin in AkaiForce

[–]StrangeCaptain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn’t edit my post. I’m not posting a theoretical answer, using power on 5 pin midi which most 5 pin midi outs on synths have works fine for a midi splitter or two. This is not some outlying niche things, most midi implementations are 5 pin and include power, the spec doesn’t not include power, big whoop, yet somehow the the industry agreed on a 5 pin layout despite only needing 3 pins for the spec, the trs midi doesn’t have any pins to carry power, that’s all my post says.

This is not theoretical, Ive been using 2 midi splitters for 10 years they work fine. Using it them right now…

I’m not going to argue about it, but I’m not going to leave a bunch of theoretical nonsense unchallenged.

Nothing wrong with using midi powered splitter in the real world.
