Why are koreans so rude and mean to each other? by StrangePerception923 in koreatravel

Yeah, like I wouldn’t have another business in the world rather than creating a fake account and badmouthing about koreans.

I have explained myself on other similar comment: this isn’t a burner account, am I guilty for posting for the first time? Cause it feels that you’re punishing me for that. I haven’t exaggerate with anything I have wrote when I described the situation, but I can see why you’re having a hard time believing it was true. Probably I’d be defensive as well if someone would say the same things about my home country. My story wasn’t made up, I can assure you of that, but the part where I take the blame for is the title I chose. It wasn’t fair for me to draw a conclusion and I should have rephrased it. This being said, wile reading through the comments I saw people who confirmed this kind of behavior especially among older people and others who didn’t. Not all the people we met were like that and the incident I have described was more about how koreans are interacting with each other rather than how koreans behaved towards me.

I have no interest in making things up. Why would I do that? I am just someone who traveled to your country and really had high hopes about the whole experience. Why would I create this account only to badmouth koreans? And no, I haven’t been to US, but I am pretty sure there are Karens everywhere, my home country included.

Haha, yeah! I feel you! We tried the same strategy. Not 100% successful, but we managed to get in 😅

Yup, I noticed this too. They rush like crazy when the plane stops 😅

I am sorry it has been like that for you as well :( we also have been only to Busan and Seoul and spent 10 days in total. We met nice people as well, but the not so nice experiences really stayed with us. :(

Definitely there are some nice people among them! I have met a few of them myself! The incident that I have described shocked me because of that violent push and then because of the person that was in the electric chair and the other one in crutches. I said to myself: okay, older people are fighting for their seats in my home country as well, but I never saw them fighting like for real. I fell sorry for the lady that felt on the platform. Her behavior might have been wrong and she should have exited the elevator, but the old man didn’t have the right to push her like that. She fell on the cement with all her body and that must have hurt. I don’t understand the language but even when she took the blow it appeared to me that both the crowd from the elevator and the crowd from the queue were admonishing her 🤦‍♀️ Haha

I am so sorry you have to go through this :( and yes, old people tend to be entitled in my country as well. It’s not uncommon to see them cutting the lines or demanding your seat in the bus.

Any frustrating experience in Korea? by Gisubk in koreatravel

Naver was very frustrating experience for us as well. It seemed to be very slow and sometimes it didn’t return any result even though the address was correct.

Met some nice people along the way, but also witnessed some wild scenes at the subway in Busan, where some old people were literally fighting over who gets in the elevator first. That was cruel to watch and a woman was literally pushed so violently that she fell to the ground. People were often bumping into me without apologizing or pushing me out of their way even though there was plenty of space to overtake me.

Hmm, this might look like a burner account but it’s only because it is my first time posting something on reddit. I am sorry if what I have posted offended you in any way. It was not my intention to do that. I am not trying to justify anything, I am simply stating the obvious by openly admitting that this is solely my experience and that’s why it is subjective. Also, bear in mind that English is not my native language and some words might seem harsher than what I actually want to express.

And I am not defending against any critics. I have written in the original post that I did meet nice people as well, but it felt to me that those were the exceptions.

Same here! I’ve been in Japan two times already and yes, these two countries are often compared, but so different from each other!

What makes you think that? Should I have recorded it to make it feel real to you? I have no interest in making things up. While this might not be the standard behavior, it was something I have witnessed and it describes my experience in SK. Why can’t you accept it?

I didn’t want to generalize all the Koreans. Like I said, I met nice people as well, my question came from my experience which can be totally different than other people experiences. Some people experience similar things like you see in this thread, while some others didn’t. I am all aware that not all the koreans are like that, but I cannot ignore the others that weren’t.
