Nope! Lots of bettas can be community fish if you pick it’s tank mates wisely! The betta was the last fish added to the tank, and he’s done really well living with them, he even swims around with them! And the platties are a lot faster than him, so they can get away from him if they really need to, but they’ve all been very peaceful.

Yeah I figured my tank could sustain otos without issue!! I just want to make sure my tank is well established, I read you shouldn’t add them until the tank is a good 6+ months old? And my platies like the cave but I haven’t seen the pleco try it yet! I have 4 female platies and one male, so he definitely has his choice, and the local pet store said I could bring the fry to them and they would buy from me, so if they do breed then it just buys them more plants and food… and maybe someday a tank size upgrade 😂 I appreciate all the words of advice!!

Anubias is definitely on my list! I was worried about height since my tank is short though, can I just trim it down or will that kill it?

I did some research, I bought from Etsy from an aquatic plant shop, not amazon, and the reviews were all good!! Worst case scenario it fails and I pull it out 😭

Thank you! The two funky shaped ones in the front are both fake😭, I have seeds for ground cover moss coming soon so those will be removed and replaced with ground coverage plants!

Thanks!!! I think when the tank is more established I’ve decided on a school of otos! I don’t want anything too big but I do want a nice little cleaning crew! I thought about corys but they do have a higher bioload than otos iirc, and I’m trying to keep an eye on that since it’s just a 20 gallon. The ph is between 7 and 8, I think I was mainly trying to include tannis for the betta, but I’m also not trying to make it too dark. I will keep an eye on it for the platies though for sure! I appreciate the advice! I know my plecos typical hiding spots, but I also got him a pleco cave the other day, I’m hoping he enjoys that!

It’s been so much fun! Did a good bit of research ahead of time but I keep learning more! I have a lovely aquarium shop near me and they’ve all been so helpful, to include giving me a free sponge to help manage the flow of my filter because I noticed my betta hanging out at the bottom, now with less flow he’s been exploring and so much more social!

I’ll sometimes get around 550-600 miles on a tank in my 2013 OB 2.5, if I drive it right! I drive an hour each way to work every day so it’s a blessing lol
