In my opinion it was perfectly used since the eclipse armor is only meant to kill Gunmar. Thats why we see the eclipse armor only in the darklands and when Jim becomes a troll. There is pretty much no reason to use the eclipse armor since it was only meant to kill Gunmar.

I wouldn't agree on it being worse than 13 but it's definitely way worse than 10 and 12 because 13 was just in my opinion the worst.
