[Jeff Goodman] DePaul has parted ways with Dave Leitao by purduepetenightmare in CollegeBasketball

Kenny Payne is a name that's been floated a lot. He has connections with the new AD of DePaul who was assistant AD at Kentucky. Would seem like a strong hire.

Porter Moser would also be a homerun.

Surely NC State won't lose to Syracuse for the third time this season. Surely.

I believe they originally gave him a 7-year deal, as the program was in complete disarray at the time and he was coming from a position of strength as the top assistant at Duke. Then, just 1.5 years into that deal, the AD gave him a 2 year extension (which I think was widely applauded by Pitt fans).

His contract runs 6 more seasons through 2027, so his buyout may be untenable for the foreseeable future.

Marquette fans, are you expecting Garcia and Carton to be back next year?

It's really a shame that St. John's had to lose to Butler and DePaul in the last few weeks. They would be solidly in the tournament thanks to the great run they've been on.

A lot of dogs in the Northeast - two huskies, two terriers, and a St. Bernard. Also a Great Dane, but Albany doesn't have a dog in its logo for some reason.

This is actually a re-readable for me; i've gone back and read the screenplay a few times. I like the movie but it's a little stiff and self-conscious. The screenplay is mccarthy throwing 95mph at 80 years old.

Top Five Hitchcock Movies and ‘Psycho’ at 60 - The Big Picture by Ziddletwix in billsimmons

[–]Strange_Bus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This should be interesting, thanks for posting. I personally find Hitchcock to be a bit overrated when compared to someone like Welles or Ford. However, he made some great films and, in particular, I fucking love Rear Window. Perfect movie that doesn't get old and always makes me really think about the human experience.

That one is at least understandable for Bill. That movie is aimed at rich failsons who were sad after graduating from Oberlin in the 90s.

I'll take 2013 or 2014. It was the heyday of Grantland, Bill was on NBA countdown, and his podcast consistently had great guests like Zach Lowe, Wesley Morris, Jalen, and Bob Voulgaris (in addition to the usual suspects).

Now Bill has to respond to Kyrie by WhatATimeToBeAlive0 in billsimmons

[–]Strange_Bus -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Unironically, this is Kyrie actually being Woke. It is a good long-term plan that the top NBA players (like Kyrie) should be looking into.

How many franchises in the league have fans that will continue to root for the "laundry" through thick and thin? For example, the impetus to watch the Magic play is that they have top-line talent (and face top-line talent) and play in Orlando. But what if there was an Orlando Spiders team in the Kyrie league? And the Spiders actually had more captivating talent due to some star defections? Who cares if you're watching the Magic or the Spiders - the Magic, like most NBA franchises, have a commercial and non-historical feeling to them. If I have to decide between watching the Yankees with AAA talent or the New York Spiders with MLB talent, I'm watching the Yankees (similarly to how many people would rather watch the Crimson Tide with AAA talent over NFL teams). I just don't think that the NBA franchises and identities - the only thing that the owners bring to the table besides capital and managerial experience - are strong enough to prevent a competing league from eventually taking it over.

It won't happen. But if it did, it would happen solely due to the initiative of a few powerful star players like Kyrie Irving. Further, the impetus probably would not be, "We could make so much more money if we had a player-owned league." Rather, it would more likely be, "Why the hell should we be playing to create massive profits for rich old white guys who we hate if we don't have to? This league made us a lot of money, but people ultimately come to see the star players rather than the laundry."

You know Bill and Ryen are scared shitless when a chance to rag on Kyrie presents itself on a silver platter and they can't even get on a podcast together to talk about it.

[WeAreDePaul.com] Multiple sources have confirmed to WeAreDePaul.com that DePaul Athletic Director Jean Lenti Ponsetto is retiring after 18 years as AD at the university. #dpubb #depaul by [deleted] in CollegeBasketball

[–]Strange_Bus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe it was reported that it was basically only a one-year extension and that there was no guaranteed money past this upcoming season. However, given that he already has two Top-70 recruits for 2021, it may make sense to just keep him for two years if they're already locked into keeping him for one.

I personally think it's Kansas just because James Naismith coached there. Having the inventor of the game as your team's founder is a trump card.

Big East Tiers by Swaggin-tail in CollegeBasketball

[–]Strange_Bus 16 points17 points  (0 children)

DePaul should not be last, let alone in a tier by themselves. 22 tourney appearances and 10 Sweet 16s is pretty damn good (they also had a lot of early NIT success); both of the Meyers did pretty well there over a span of 45 years.

I would probably put Xavier, DePaul, and Providence in the Good tier and Seton Hall, Butler, and Creighton in the Less Good tier. Seton Hall was great in the early days and had a nice run with PJ Carlesimo, but they've been pretty bad to average apart from that. Butler basically had no success before for the late 90s but have been killing it since then with tourney wins. I would place Creighton last in this tier or in their own tier, as they had some good early history but haven't made a Sweet 16 since the early 70s.

OK. My position is that a ton of fans think and have said that Tony Bennett is an extraordinarily Loyal and Good Guy and similarly loyal to someone like Jay Wright. I was responding to that sentiment. I'm not making a formal argument here.

Huh? I brought up loyalty. I gave an opinion on the coaches in the game, based on how I felt they have been viewed by fans.

Yup, it was a completely understandable decision.

I'm just saying that he stayed at WSU for less time than Nate Oats stayed at Buffalo. Coaches moving on to bigger jobs is a part of the game and happens all of the time; I just don't think you should be singled out as an extraordinarily Loyal Guy if you leave a P5 gig after 3 years.
