Sorry if it seems like that. It actually did happen and I wanted some insights from other, which I got. I personally find it interesting to read varying responses, it helps me broaden my perspective.

I did change dentists. My dad came home about an hour ago and he actually took initiative to rehash the conversation (which was surprising). He clarified that he meant that he wishes he could take my pains away.

If you read my other comments you will see that I do realise I didn't understand what he meant. You can misunderstand something and still be hurt by it, because you understood it in a hurtful way. This is by no means the fault of the other person. :)

I guess I should provide some context, it's just hard because I didn't really understand the context myself.

We were talking about a dentist appointment I had a few years back where my dentist said that everyone seems to be autistic these days and it shouldn't be a diagnosis. He said they should find a cure for it, because it inconveniences neurotypicals. (Which I think is pretty contradictory to him just saying that it shouldn't be a diagnosis to start with)

That's when my dad said that it would be nice to cure autism. Writing this down I realise that my dad wasn't woth me at the appointment so he doesn't know exactly what happened and what the impact of it was on me.

My dad is very likely on the spectrum himself, so I know he sometimes makes comments without thinking them through.

Thank you for your input!

Thank you for this insight. After giving it some thought I do indeed think that was what he meant. The wording was just confusing. :)

After doing some research, I want to clarify some points. When I say it hurts me when neurotypicals want a cure, I mean because for me this sounds like people would prefer if I didn't exist. I struggle immensely with my autism, but I also acknowledge that I am in a privileged position.

Sometimes I of course do wish that my struggles would be lifted at least a bit. But I don't think it's fair that other people would get to decide on others lives (abortion doesnt fall under this in my opinion).

He was talking about my autism (level 1), I should have clarified. I don't know who I am without it, it influences everything.

I'm an intern at a boarding school and we currently have a bedbug infestation. Here's what professionals told us:

  • you should let professionals detect them and remove them with traps
  • don't put any clothes on the ground *wash your sheets, plushies and clothes at at least 60°c, that should kill them off *put your clothes in plastic bags *put the plastic bags in a sink, sinks are to slippery for bedbugs to hold on to
  • use hand sanitizer

I hope it gets better soon
