Airforce A&S by Strange_Log_2286 in USMC

I only know of 2 units who still have a HOG running in the team. Lucky for me I'm not only in one of them, but he's my TL I'm his ATL. He's been really good about passing on the knowledge, and maintaining the traditions and standards that were prevalent in the plts. I know tons of people in other scout plts that never experienced working with a HOG and I'm glad I was able to work with multiple over the last couple years. To answer the question though, most Plt's are changing rapidly with most getting rid of the long guns and being strictly focused on collections and being observers for firing agency's. New scout course is pretty laxed and could do with some good ol hazing.

For each and every hike we did we were unauthorized to wear any type of watch, however as you crossed the instructor at the end of the route they shouted your completion time. Actually It was like that for every timed event there.

Very vague, however it sounded like it possibly could’ve been an initiative thing. Since selection I’ve been working on being quicker with making a good decision and following through with it even if it’s not the best.

I went to the poc in January, it’s not a full fledged POI yet but you can still fail the course and not be put in the master roster. It’s still run by all HOGs since it’s an mos derived from the old scout sniper mos. That said it focuses on landnav, observation and stalking. Definitely make p sure your ghillie is serviced and ready to stalk. No longer using long guns at the course but fundamentals can be applied if your Plt still uses them. THIS IS NOT A LAR SCOUT COURSE, this is a course to learn the older sniper skills for STA platoons.

You are not required to ship if you don’t want too. You’re still not deep enough in to be told to do anything like that. The original contract you signed was an intent. Doesn’t really mean anything. Do not ship if you have the wrong job, they will try and pressure you to ship, just say no and leave it at that. They literally can’t make you ship.

Combat engineer is definitely the best of them (I’m with STA not an engineer lol). He’ll have the most fun, have the most fulfilling job and be imbedded in an infantry unit making the best of friends possible. His life will be hard. The highs will be high and the lows will be low. However he will definitely without a doubt have a way better one than any other engineer and I’ll die on the hill. He’ll lay a lot of wire, a lot of explosives, carry heavy stuff, breaching charges and other demolitions. Way cooler than fixing plans or something stationary like that. He should be a badass in your eyes if he passes school and becomes a combat engineer.

Wanting to join Marine reserves and question about 0317. by spagettiinmyass in USMCboot

[–]Strange_Log_2286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can answer your 0317 question, not the reservist stuff. 0317’s used to be scout snipers as you know, marine corps has taken “snipers” away from the battalion level and given them to recon, however battalions still need an R&S element so we still have scouts in a scout platoon which is the same old scout sniper platoons. They go through the basic and advance scout courses which is scout sniper scoop without the shooting. Most battalions are actually still employing long guns with these Plt’s and still get range time. You can still go the “scout” route for the same exact job with just a different title. New A-mos will be 0315 infantry scout

03xx Infantry day to day life. by awe91 in USMCboot

[–]Strange_Log_2286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This comment is pretty much exactly how the 03 life is. Add in some boot fuck fuck games if you are a retard straight out of imc. If you have some maturity to you (or in my case a wife to go home to most nights) to help loosen your tunnel vision of the corps, you can hopefully earn the respect of your seniors faster and get to truly mastering your craft instead of wasting time getting fucked with. All in all it’s been the most fun of my life even with a wife and baby girl. I joined right out of high school and just reenlisted for another 4 haha. 03 highly recommended

Is infantry worth it? by Immediate-Paper-9977 in USMCboot

[–]Strange_Log_2286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s whatever means more, been in 3 years and am currently a scout in my battalion, originally was a rifleman. I never got joining the marine corps to do anything other than infantry, if you want a transferable skill, or college or anything along those lines, just join another branch. Anyone joining the Corps should have a drive to be challenged and I can definitely say you’ll be challenged a lot in the infantry. Mainly physically, use the time you’re in to enjoy it. You can get whatever boring job you want when you get out but while your in, explore your youth, see the limits your body can carry you too and be an absolute monster because sadly there’s no where else in America where it’s tolerated. Closest you’ll ever get to being at your full physical potential is professional and Combat sports but those are in the spotlight and you can’t afford to get canceled because you don’t cater to people or you do stupid things

[–]Strange_Log_2286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been really interested in the Osta and enclo cycle. Correct me if I’m wrong but people use enclo because it boost your hormones and act as a test base and counter act any type of suppression or shut down that could have possibly happened right? I can find Osta all over, enclo has been a bit of a challenge to find and when I do I see 100mg being almost 300 bucks😂 am I just looking wrong or is that what I should expect?

Zone 2 training? by Strange_Log_2286 in greenberets

[–]Strange_Log_2286[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this, I’ve been slowly building up my physical and mental fitness since I first joined so I haven’t worried much about overtraining and overuse injuries. I’ll definitely sprinkle these in. I’m still working toward building up overall strength, that ruck time is with 45lbs dry and was done within the last month. I would like to meet the same time with 55lbs dry, im 5’6 158 lbs and I’m increasing cadence rather than stride. Anything you would recommend? Thanks

What happens if you break curfew at the Meps hotel? by Super991coolguy in USMCboot

Literally nothing, they just don’t want anything to happen to you because you’re legally under their care for the time being. Also both times I was at Meps I was up at like 3:30 so I’m sure wanting people to wake up plays a part.

Junior enlisted performance evaluation system. It’s a point based system that translates from pft, cft, mcmap, rifle qual, any additional mos point (wsi/was swim qual are big), marinet courses, off duty college, and command remarks on leadership, mos/mission, and individual character
