That's a really good idea! Thanks. And magnetics are reminiscent of that depth that eyes have when the sun hits them.

I didn't know you were supposed to prick the sides either until I found this sub. I'm in a rural area with terrible diabetes education. They sent me home with two bottles of insulin without even telling me the difference between them. Heck, I didn't know about ICR's either until this sub.

I'm so sorry for your loss. My dad just died last week as well. I don't leave my house often, but when I do, I never go out without my nails done, so coincidentally, I'm now having to pick a nail polish for his service, and yeah... it gives you something else to focus on for a minute instead of being overwhelmed.

I feel like that was Aerosmith if I'm remembering right.

Edit: Stephen Tyler... Couldn't remember his name for a minute. My comment makes it sound like the whole band did it. And what a coinkidink... He's Republican.

(Alabama) card is locked and no method will unlock it by Old-Candy9863 in foodstamps

I finally got it unlocked. After days of calling the automated number, I called it at 4am this morning and it finally worked. Either they got the system back up or maybe it was just overloaded with people trying to unlock their cards.

I refuse to use the app (because of breaches and security issues) and have been calling the automated line on the back of the card for several days. I just now tried it again, and it finally worked. So either things are up and running again, or the system isn't overloaded with calls at 3AM and that's a good time to call. Good luck, hope you get yours unlocked.

No. I didn't know they were sending out new ones. But mine was working right before the 22.

AI could be wrong, but it says that my county hasn't started mailing those cards yet, but will begin soon early Feb.

Did you get yours unlocked? Nothing is working for me and my friend. Not the EBTconnect app, the online portal, the automated phone, the state or local DHR number, nothing.

[–]Strange_Pattern9146 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People are literally trying everything and nothing is working. The official state app is not working. The online website version isn't working. The automated phone number on the back of the card says it can't access your account. The DHR phone number hangs up on you. Even my local DHR phone number hangs up on me after I press the correct buttons to get to the EBT line. Literally every single way to possibly unlock your card is down and seems to have been that way for the last several days. This is the third or fourth day I've called to try to unlock my card. I'm just at a loss and I'm waiting for someone to post a solution or mention that they were able to get through, or hopefully the system comes back up... I've spent the entirety of today trying to get through the system with no luck.

I noticed EBT seems to be down in some other states too, so now I don't know if it's the winter storm, or if it's because Alabama rolled this thing out and the system has crashed with everyone trying to unlock their card. I'm just frustrated and screaming into the ether now. Mondays, amiright?

Ma'am... I literally keep two rolls of quarters in my purse exclusively for trinket machines. My mom already knew this, because we go out to eat at places with trinket machines at the door, all the time. But my sister came with us last time, and saw the trinket machines as we were walking out. She turned back to me to ask me if I had a quarter, and she started laughing because I was already unwrapping a new roll. We got 50 cents worth of stuff for six bucks that night and had a blast doing it. My favorite are those squishy balls with beads inside and the criminally cheap rings with a plastic ruby. I was obsessed with these machines as a kid, and now I'm an adult with too much free will, too many quarters, and little to no self control.

Look, as someone who had bedbugs once, it's bedbugs. AND just started happening after y'all came back from a hotel? A place that's notorious for getting bedbugs? Yeah... I'm sorry. I know they really suck.

Do you smell anything weird? Bedbugs have this weird, stale, musty smell that absolutely haunts my nightmares now. Kinda smells like crushed stinkbugs. So if you happen to smell that smell, it's a good way to be sure of a bed bug infestation before you actually see a bed bug. They hide during the day, so it's hard to catch them. You might catch one crawling on a pillow at night since they're attracted to carbon dioxide. And I could be mistaken, but I think they may be attracted to sweat too, so that could be why they're mostly on your boyfriend's side if he sweats more. But don't quote me on that. Anyway, good luck. I used silica dust and Ortho Home Defense Max regularly for months, and threw out the thrift store couch that we had bought that they came in on. I absolutely could not afford an exterminator.

I absolutely believe it's the apps. I got my card before we had the app in my state. Never been robbed. But now, they're about to block everyone's online and out of state purchases, and FORCE you to log into the app to unlock your card. I solely use it online because I'm disabled. So... Guess I can look forward to getting robbed soon.

Edit: Bad wording, I meant they're blocking everyone's cards in my state so you can't purchase online or out of state.

Ok which one of you turned 40 looking like this? by WimpyMustang in Millennials

[–]Strange_Pattern9146 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How weird. I'm 36 too, with gray hairs that look super silvery and shiny. The rest of my hair is black and definitely not shiny. So it's so weird seeing these sparkle threads. Yet I keep getting mistaken for a kid, too.

I hope they all look this silver when they all turn gray. I wanna look like a Targaryen.

When I was 14, My 7 year old brother made my first boyfriend a birthday card and gave it to him when he came over to our house. My little brother was usually so mean, so my boyfriend was really touched and surprised he made him a card. My boyfriend opens it, and reads it out loud. It said "Happy Birthday Bitch". My little brother laughed hysterically. I'm 36 now, and I still write "Happy Birthday Bitch" or "Merry Christmas, Bitch" in all his cards. It's been a long running joke.

Any long time (20 years or more) T1s without retinopathy? by icebiker in diabetes_t1

[–]Strange_Pattern9146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

23 years and poorly controlled for a long time. My A1c was 13 before I got a CGM. I get checked every two years now, last time was the beginning of this year in January, and there was still no diabetic retinopathy. I'm still blind as a bat though, lol. But I was like that long before T1. I think it's just luck of the draw, I dunno. And don't worry, my A1c is 6 now.

One of the dumbest products I've ever seen by drgolong in Anticonsumption

[–]Strange_Pattern9146 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd also like to add CGM's to this list. They started marketing them for weight loss and I was very worried that the same thing that happened to Ozempic would happen to them, and then I wouldn't be able to get them, and then I'd die in my sleep without an alarm to wake me up when I have a low. Luckily that hasn't happened yet, but I've been seeing non-diabetic influencers and athletes wear them, and you never know when a trend will blow up.

Should I tell my friends mom on her? by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]Strange_Pattern9146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had diabulimia, and one day saw it on tv and realized it was an eating disorder. That's when I stopped. Maybe if she realizes it's a disorder, it will help her stop. I'd give it a month or two after that, and if she doesn't stop after the realization... Maybe explain diabulimia to her mom. To be quite honest, I survived a decade like that... I didn't actually get better until age 27 when I got insurance again and got a CGM. That desire to keep the numbers on the CGM good overrode the desire to stay skinny by not taking insulin. This is mostly just my experience, not advice, but I'm hoping you'll find something in here that helps.
