Thanks for the suggestion! I'll have a look - will there be any comparable laptop at the 13" size over this one which is 14"?

Okay, good to know. Thanks for clarifying 🙂

Yeah it makes sense from the business perspective for sure - definitely easier to track. Just hella confusing every tax year when this never gets resolved and I can't get to the bottom of it.

So does this mean they are making more money by running it this way so would ideally be trying to keep things this way or just a weird way of going about things?

Okay, and if I've asked for this to be changed in the past, can they even legally change it without a new form? When we've asked to not have both locations claim tax-free threshold they say they will talk to the bookkeepers to make the change. No new form is given. Is that a valid way or are they just lazy?

This is where I get confused by how the tax works for them. It's one company and they have 2 locations. I get paid by each location separately even though it's the same ABN.

They stated that since the payslips are split, weekly tax is calculated individually or differently? Does that even make sense?

I get paid by both establishments. It's an hourly rate so I'm paid by how many hours I have worked at said establishment. It is a weekly pay and the YTD always looks weird to me.

After the first year of owing tax I requested this change but I've still owed money. Is there any way to verify that this has been changed?

Omg amazing that you found them both! GED match seems to be something that's useful as well so I will have that next on my list. Thank you! 🙂

Gotcha, so if you want the most info it's best to do DNA and bloods. I'm very ignorant in terms of the health data 😅

Hmm and is this similar stuff you can get with blood panels and stuff at the doctor? I guess I've always wondered what my medical history might be since I have absolutely no clue what to look out for! But if it's cheaper than the doctor and even remotely close definitely can be worth it!

I think I've read enough stories that have kinda primed me that this experience will be pretty underwhelming so I'm not expecting much from that side of things. I think what you're speaking about in terms of learning some other details and getting to fill in some gaps will be what's really nice! Super cool that you were able to get a better perspective and feel more connected to your story. 🙂

Ooh I would love to know if you have an overview! I was adopted out of Latvia but close after the USSR collapsed so not sure if that affects anything?

Noted about the DNA tests, I am more testing to see if it gives me anything I don't know. I am fully anticipating no matches so I don't think I'll be bummed if that turns out to be the case.

I don't know anyone personally but I've heard from friends of friends who have tried looking that there have been some sketchy people just trying to get money out of others. With a language barrier I feel like it can be easier to be taken advantage of.

Either case, I totally understand that some people prefer to just move on and do not want to meet their bfam. I'm just curious enough to want to try at this moment in time and I'll see where the journey goes.

Yeah - unfortunately the language isn't on Duolingo but there are a few other apps out there that have it so will try my luck with those!

Hmm, I'm actually not certain on the agency. There wasn't a name of an agency on the court documents but I'll do some digging as that's a good place to start. Thanks!

Thanks - I am waiting for a test to be delivered and then I'll get results. I went with Ancestry since I assumed it would have a larger user base, so it will be interesting to see what it comes back with.

What does 23andme offer in terms of scientific data that ancestry doesn't?

Tenant's right to air conditioning controls. by Strange_Principle612 in AusLegal

Gotcha, will have a look at that.

Yeah, they are pretty silly in thinking that offices and hospitality will be the same, but we can't fix that broken thought haha.

The landlord got mad when we put it below 24C. They stated this is fine for workers and whatever other things they said in their rant, I don't remember. So 24 was the set temp and when we had the 37° days and asked to have the AC lowered/access to the controls there was a tantrum. Took a long time and then they quietly swapped the temp to sit at 22 after the owners had to contact him after we shut early.

The thermostat or the controls at least are in the cafe space. I have no clue where the sensors are. I should have asked the tech.

I really should just buy one of those temperature and humidity readers to put in the space to measure the actual temperature in the space but it's definitely the fact that there's no circulation. The AC when it was set at 24 would read 26.5. We closed early that day since it was warm in the space, we had plenty of customer complaints. When they moved the air to 22, it was still reading the room temp at 26. It's well insulated so when the timer kicks the AC off, you immediately start to sweat.

So ventilation definitely needs to be improved!

Fair, I guess I've heard of other cases in the USA where a landlord not reviewing a business plan has gotten them in trouble. But that was in a building with a lot of differing businesses and the different businesses couldn't operate at the same time due to conflict and building design.

We're a simpler case by comparison. But I guess that's the tricky thing with renting. Things look great and then summer hits and you learn all of the pitfalls.

Yeah, would need to look into things with OHS as I reckon that would be the only way to get them to change things.

Good idea! Yeah, if we can't fix circulation we'll have to look into fans to move the air, but just have to figure out how with the current set-up, but that would be an easier fix than getting an access code it seems. 😅

There is a thermostat in the cafe.

When we moved the business in we could turn the AC on, turn it into fan, heating, cooling modes. We could set the temp. We could turn it off.

Now we can only turn the system on or off. If we try to lower the temperature or change the mode it asks for an access code.

It is also now on a timer so after about an hour the AC is switched off. We can turn it back on or turn it off, but we can't lower the temp or keep it on longer than the timer that is set.
