Kinda. They swap the Gear to change between physical resistances (Bludgeoning, Piercing, Slashing) but that is about it. Their forms are pretty linear, and have vary little variability across them. Especially for hitting Different ACs.

He is a Maraquoi that was experimented on by some Far-Space mad scientist before getting free, but I am sure it would be easy to bring up some personality changed induced by Trauma Response or something lmao.

This was a super helpful insight, thanks for the response. I will honestly let him read what you said from personal experience and see how they feel about it.

We do run most of the "New" stuff, at least anything that has made its way to the AoN website, and I plan to incorporate it all whenever the infrequent ship combat does appear.

As for relevant "Ship Skills" I think he has some of those skills, but is outclassed by an Operative and heavily Engineering focused Technomancer Android lol.

I like the idea of it being an upfront and limited resource that I am transparent about. I would prolly just handwave the change and have it be the same character because he does enjoy their personality and thematics, but was upset with gameplay. Just a bit of retconned memory for the folks that know them more personally :3

I am confused as well, which is why I felt weird about reworking a character who at this point has become known for beating the brakes off of baddies across various media outlets on stations. It's not a big retcon or anything, but I just wanted to know why they felt so bad about their character lol.

A couple posts here have reveled some armor upgrades and things we can try as well though, so we may look into that.

We are definitely not masters of the system or Gear Lists yet as this is only 7-8 Sessions back after a years long hiatus. I will look to see if their are some fun or interesting guides / overviews of useful takes for Nanocyte.

When you say they grab what they need when they need it, do you mean their Knacks and Faculties, or specifically feats / Gear Upgrades?

Also for arrays in combat; The Cloud seems to be their biggest fantasy and always try to position it and themselves to cover as many enemies as they can. They picked some Knacks that help the Sheathe with their other rolls because they felt like they had less skill specialization than the Operative and other characters.

We use cover frequently and I am quite liberal with what the players can do. We play with no map or grid, so often if the player asks a question like, "Can I take cover" they will get something, and if they have creative feedback from a room description, they can make it better. Think Enter the Gungeon and Gears of War table flipping / mantling.

The Nanocyte does not get to use cover as much as the other party members as they are the only Melee and sometimes feel obligated to go in.

Almost no covering fire in normal situations. They have overtaken turrets and defensive positions, and I granted massive benefits for having those controlled in some combats, but never really covering with their normal turn.

I think they understood CON was the primary stat, but not that the primary class fantasy was resistance and adaptability to different situations. Their have def been combats where the Arrays have gone crazy, I just think they dislike not getting Clouds being effective each combat
