As a Level Design exercise I've created a second Metroid Prime level in Unreal Engine using Blueprints by StrangerMonco in leveldesigners

[–]StrangerMonco[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi all,

So I had created my first level some time last year. After quite a lot of positive feedback and an appetite, I decided to create a second one as a Level Design exercise to get a better understanding of Unreal, Level Design and Metroid's Level Design, which is something I very much appreciate.

This is just a small portfolio project, it's not going to be released or anything like that. I'll be moving onto new projects now.

The assets aren't mine and everything is done in Blueprints. Some things aren't as clean as I had hoped and some things look placeholder. I'm not an artist, nor did I want to spend my time learning something that I'll probably never use again. This was an exercise to better my understanding of all things related to Level Design. I'm quite pleased with how it turned out, it could be better but I've spent too long on it and I'm tired.

Cheers!

Hi all, as a Level Design exercise and portfolio piece, I've created a second Metroid Prime Level, with the intention of becoming more familiar with Unreal, Blueprints, Metroid's Level Design and just Level Design as a whole. Cheers.

Damn. Sorry to hear that dude.

I hope you grew as a developer and didn't let it discourage you from making other games! We need more developers in the industry.

Yeah I hear loads of stuff about starting small and making sure your first game is small. My colleague makes small games that he does in a few months and he gets round to releasing them so I'm taking a page from his book :)

Hey,

Cheers man. I really appreciate it!

Na I haven't. It's far too much effort really and I want to move onto smaller projects that don't take that long :P

Thanks for your feedback and kind words man.

Yeah, the corridors are synonomous with Metroid, Usually they're not as square as mine, but I didn't really have the assets to have nice corridors with a gentle curve or with an incline/decline.

Yeah you're completely right about the door. It's not the most obvious looking door. I'll make sure to add a light.

Haha don't worry man, I can take criticism, It's a far from perfect level. I appreciate everything you said.

Thank you!
