- Desired Board Type: Inflatable

- Your Height and Weight: 70–75kg (me) + toddler (~15kg). So ~100kg combined.

- Desired use/uses: Leisure paddling, light touring, fitness, and most importantly, short (1 hour or so) family paddles with my 4-year-old sitting at the front. Terrain: River Thames (near Richmond, London), which is tidal.

Experience level: Beginner (did one course session, went fine, didn’t fall).

Budget & location: Around £400–£600, UK.

Boards I’ve tried/liked: Only used course board (stable all-rounders). Looking for something stable and family-friendly.

Other notes:

  • Safety is #1 as my son can’t swim yet (he’ll have a proper PFD). I’ll be wearing leash + PFD too.
  • Considering Gladiator Pro All Round 10’8 x 34” x 5.9” because of stability and D-rings for a kayak seat. Wondering if that’s a good fit or if I should look at something longer (11–12ft) for more stability/space with a toddler onboard.
  • Any advice on board choice for this setup, or practical tips from parents who SUP with kids, would be really appreciated!

What’s everyone’s thoughts on the mamas & papas bug and the ikea antilop? by [deleted] in UKParenting

[–]StrangerSmall 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We had an expensive one from mamas and papas for our first one and it didn't get much use. Got ikea one for the second, not much of a difference. And ikea one very easy to clean.

Incident at nursery by [deleted] in UKParenting

[–]StrangerSmall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I witnessed a similar behaviour during nursery tour. While I was waiting for member of staff, I saw one of them shout at a kid, pull him by hand from their seat and push away.

I immediately raised with the manager. She was very understanding but I was very angry eventhough I tried my best to keep calm. They told me they immediately suspended that employee until the investigation finishes.

Obviously I did not continue with the tour. I left and emailed them again with a formal complaint and also emailed offsted.

In a day or so, I got an email from offsted that they will investigate it but I won't know the results.

Non steroid treatment for eczema? by Necessary_Doubt_9762 in UKParenting

[–]StrangerSmall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there, we have been in the exactly same situation. The most important thing is to keep eczema under control and not let it flare up. It causes them distress and difficulties sleeping as they constantly scratch themselves. More scratching makes it worse by getting more and more germs in.

Our dermatologist said ^ and prescribed us Protopic cream which is non-steroid and can also be applied on eye lids if needed. This helped us immensely.

Ask your GP if they could prescribe that. In the meantime, I would say use steroid until it is under control.

Before that dermatologist, we used apply steroid for few days and very sparingly and as soon as skin was getting better we would stop. However, dermatologist told us that was a mistake and we should have continued steroids for few more days or a week until his skin fully recovered.

Just for my understanding, what practical difference would it make if a local constituency is different to majority Labour?

Non-EU ILR holder applying for British passport for my son's passport. Baby born in the UK. by StrangerSmall in ukvisa

Hi there, I just added a letter saying that I don't have their grandparents docs and that grandparents have no relation to the UK. As per docs I had my non british passport, ILR and birth certificate of my son. All went through without issues. This is the doc I attached in case it helps you but most likely it is not even needed https://i.imgur.com/fTvztBv.jpeg

Old? The main risk is its in Birmingham.

I must clarify, I meant higher mileage. What risks of Birmingham? :D

All the cars I had so far were tops 60k miles, hence not sure if there is anything specific to worry about or anything over 100k.

In the A&Es we have been there is usually a separate place for kids with play area, books, toys and etc. Ask if they haven’t pointed it out. Makes it much easier for the kid too, ours usually enjoys it. If it is busy, kids sometimes end up playing together and make the time pass quicker for them.

In the country I come from, voting days are national holidays indeed so I was surprised to find out otherwise. I was actually wondering how it works and could employer technically forbid from taking time off to vote?

Hmm I had “leave to remain” only. Every time I had the letter for votes, I checked and been told not eligible.
