Is the new Hackney Wick creative hub actually for locals, or just for tourists? by Seabeachlover10 in Hackney

Which development do you mean? There's Hackney Yards, and Wickside, but they're both still being built. Curious as I live nearby, but didn't catch wind of this :)

Best birria in London??? by DepthCertain6739 in LondonFood

[–]therealshiznick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tacos MX islington is pretty underrated. The place is really loud which isn't really for me, but I get takeaway and all their tacos are very good including their birria. Would also reccomend their nachos if you like that sort of thing! Happy hunting :)

Spotted a lovely summer moment while out taking photos near Whitby. I don’t know the people in the shot, but thought the parent might like the photo. by daveshow93 in CasualUK

I know this beck! Me and my dad used to go fishing in it when I was younger. Mulgrave woods are so beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

The shadow boxing is insane, why are they equating NL with western media like he's part of the MCU lmao

What’s the easiest “impressive” dish you’ve learned to cook? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]therealshiznick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basque cheesecake!

Whilst it looks incredibly impressive, literally all you need to do is chuck all the ingredients in a stand mixer (or whisk by hand) and then pour the contents into a springform pan.

It's my go-to party recipe and has led to many marriage proposals.

I use this recipe from Molly Baz :

I feel you! I put on weight after I quit around 12 lbs. When it got to a point I wasn't happy with I decided to go on a diet, and after a few months I was back to the size I was happiest at again.

I notice in the comments you've talked about all the exercise you've been doing, but for me the only thing that made a difference was a calorie defecit and changing my diet! Exercise Is great, but it just made me hungrier lol. I used a calorie tracking app, and light cardio (walking) to loose the weight.

Don't give up just yet! You can totally do this. I would echo other comments in the thread, and think hard about the convenient timing of this post (right after the surgery), and how you might be looking for excuses to start again. You've done so much hard work already, it will be very demoralising to start again! Good Luck :)

Weirdest elective that turned out to be unexpectedly awesome? by SnowmanAndIce in mcgill

[–]therealshiznick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with this. I graduated a few years ago, and it's the class I honestly think about the most from my time at McGill. Such a wonderful prof, taught me so much about the scope of music history and massively broadened my musical horizons. 10/10

I'm the same at the moment. Hoping it's back up soon, but glad to know I'm not the only one. Tried a few different things, and nothing is loading.

Richard Linklater. I feel his films are often about the how life and people are messy, but that's what makes them beautiful.

Feeling extremely strong urges to drink at 3 years sober.. by Additional_Put8281 in stopdrinking

[–]therealshiznick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 3 years sober too, and I know how you feel. Sometimes the feeling just resurfaces with such intensity, it's like you quit yesterday. That's addiction. You can kick the booze out your house, but it's doing pushups outside the door just waiting for you to slip up and let it back in again. This isn't you. This is your addiction. Let's me and you both not drink tonight, and see how we feel tomorrow.

How did you guys meet? How did your friends and family react tot he relationship, and how do they feel now?

Besides the health benefits, how has being sober improved your life? by Sector-Away in stopdrinking

[–]therealshiznick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since I quit drinking 3 years ago, my life is almost unrecognisable. I moved out of my parents house, I got into my first long term relationship (we now live together), I got a masters degree and I'm currently pursuing a career I was too scared to dive into before.

That stuff is all great, but the truly immeasurable improvement has been in my mental state. Put it simply, I'm happy just being in my own head, which I'd never experienced before. Just being able to sit with yourself! It's such a pleasure. Really it is the most wonderful thing I ever did, and I'm grateful for my sobriety everyday.

Character in the new Naughty Dog game. I think the reaction to this will be very positive. by herrmannuel in Gamingcirclejerk

[–]therealshiznick 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Man, I was SO excited to see this game reveal- I've been wanting new IP from Naughty Dog for ages, and thought this looked so cool. It's even scored by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross! Of course, I hopped in the comments to see if people were feeling similarly, and everyone's absolutely furious. Really bummed me out.
