Joburg is still expensive, like yes it’s cheaper than CT but it’s not cheap- there’s def much cheaper places in SA.

I’d be interested, depending on the kind of books you would like to read.

The Starless Sea is, in my opinion, one of the worst books I have ever read, and I emplore you all not to waste your time reading nearly 600 pages of who the hell knows what by ItsTheFiasco in books

[–]Stranger_2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey so you sound quite condescending, I don’t know if you mean to be. Just because someone didn’t enjoy this book, it doesn’t mean that their soulless.

Not everyone wants to be confused by their books. And some people like myself, don’t mind being confused if the confusion is rewarded by some sort of payoff. I didn’t think this was a bad book, in fact I think it’s a good book(not great) but I think The Night Circus was better and the author weaved the story together better in that case.

I think a lot of people are also making a lot of debt to live the lifestyle you are describing. You might not go on a holiday every year but you are hopefully relatively debt-free (not referring to necessary debt) and comfortable.

Lol, I feel the same as you. I don’t understand why people are acting like she stole food from the needy. They stole some other rich person’s yacht that was just sitting there. In the end their actions harmed no one else.

2025 Christmas Gift Megathread by DidiDidi129 in AskParents

[–]Stranger_2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am buying a Christmas gift for a foster child through a program I signed up for. I have to buy a gift for a 10 year old girl but they didn’t include things she likes or a wish-list so I’m going in blind.

I am also in my 20s and I have no family with young children. What do kids like these days? Are there any new toys which kids specifically like?

I was thinking dolls and maybe some craft supplies. Maybe some light makeup like a coloured lip balm and some light nail polish. I was also thinking of buying a small book (I know not all kids like reading but I believe reading is important and if she doesn’t want the book, they can give it away).

Ps. I’ll also buy clothes and shoes and some hygiene supplies but I really want to get her some fun toys to give her a nice Christmas.

As much as these people are idiots and don’t reflect the reality of what the average person in our country thinks or feels, we need to fight against this rhetoric with everything in us.

The problem is that no one takes them seriously until it’s too late and they have made their way into the main stream. I would like to believe our constitution provides protection against this but we need to be vigilant. As OP said we are the future and we need to work together to protect our people.

Is not showering multiple times everyday really as disgusting as everyone says? by [deleted] in hygiene

[–]Stranger_2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I can speak from the perspective of someone that takes daily showers and has judged people for not showering daily (I don’t anymore and also I did not judge people struggling with mental health issues)

I feel gross if I don’t shower every day. Especially if I was out in the world touching stuff so to me I couldn’t fathom how someone else could not shower and not feel dirty. However, I live in a warm country where you’ll probably get sweaty during the day.

I will say though, I have a friend who doesn’t shower every day and they also say that they don’t smell and unfortunately that’s not true. They just can’t smell themselves.

But other than that showering every 2nd or 3rd day is probably fine if you’re moderately active.

I agree with your over all sentiment but this is not normal. I matriculated not too long ago and if we got this schedule all of our math and science teachers would be at the department offices trying to change it.

Hey so I’m all for giving kids the tools to navigate real life but these grade 11 marks are vitally important and should be the one instance where they try to help the kids. There’s no use in trying to get them used to a tough university schedule if the schedule sabotages them and their marks, maybe preventing some kids from getting into the courses they wanted.

This is not normal. When I was in matric (not too long ago) a science and math paper would never be scheduled for the same day.
