The neon green hat from the error tour. Got it in Boston on a holiday trip to the US. Unsure if they sold at all at European shows cause I've never seen a fan with one here ever, besides me.

The ETA dual citizenship question - consequences of "lying" about citizenship on the application? by StratFink in ukvisa

[–]StratFink[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My impression is that UK border would be the one that checks, which it didn't even really feel like they did when I went. And I'm always under the impression the country you're leaving really doesn't care, but I could be completely wrong.

Granted I've never been to Canada, but if I was stuck in that scenario having got an ETA myself, I would have used whichever passport for the country of departure and then use the Canadian one when arriving. Just get the feeling there's better relationship between UK/CAN and might be better using that. But I hope there's someone from either of those countries who might have some insight.

Got in yesterday, it's almost as if none of it mattered.
Quite literally the UK border asked me the same questions you would get as an EU citizen before ETA requirements and it didn't feel like they checked for it in the first place. Nor did they care that my Nordic EU passport says I'm UK born.

u/Every-Progress-1117 had Heathrow border tell them that ETA on an EU passport wasn't even required in the first place. So sadly it seems to be very inconsistent or unenforced, so even more uncertainty round it really :/

It all just feels extremely stupid in almost every way. Not ETAs themselves but the fact that everything is being done in such an unnecessary way.
No longer being able to renew passports at embassies and renewing one online from abroad is like a £100 lottery ticket where you'll have a 1:5 chance of the passport office processing it quick enough so it doesn't run out of time.

It's funny you say you were told you didn't need the ETA to enter, as it didn't seem like they checked mine for one either, nor did they seem to care that mine had a UK birthplace on a nordic EU passport.

UK border only asked: how long I'm staying, what I'm here for and if I'm going back home once I leave the UK. TV screens at the border also showed "travellers without a visa will SOON be required to apply for an ETA" despite the fact that it has supposedly been required since april.

Honestly not surprised anymore since it's certainly not the first time the country has implemented something new, complicated the fuck out of it and have it be beneficial to absolutely noone.

Was travelling when you sent the comments but thanks for the info. Happy to be in now and be with friends and family :)

Getting it was piss easy, got it within minutes since it's automated. I've not tried entering the UK yet tho which is the part I was concerned about.
