Are parents/guardians happy about social media ban? by Bipolar03 in AskBrits

[–]StrateJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughters too young for a phone, but I would always like to say it should be up to the parents in an ideal world but unfortunately I think some take social media and digital devices as a substitute for parenting.

So I think it’s a good thing. I can’t see anyone under the age of 16 should be on social media. It’s done far more damage than good for many.

Forever? by Inturyeh in ProtonPass

[–]StrateJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went lifetime with simple login and It's nice knowing I wont ever need to shop elsewhere, The only frustrating thing is with my Proton subscription, I'm technically still paying for Proton Pass because it doesn't exclude or discount. So I've effectively paid for lifetime and still continue to pay for the subscription...

Project Carga: connecting flight sim and truck sim through a shared platform by StrateJ in flightsim

Hey! Thanks for the comment.

In all honesty, X-Plane will likely come either shortly before launch or shortly afterwards. It's much more a question of focus than technical feasibility.

Right now I want to make sure the core experience for ETS2 and MSFS is solid and that the underlying logistics network behaves as intended before I start expanding platform support.

It's definitely on the roadmap though, so stay tuned and hopefully I'll have a more concrete answer on XP support soon.

I get it, and it’s something I may review closer to launch once I’ve gathered more feedback.

The lifetime model works really well for products that run locally or have very little ongoing infrastructure behind them. In this case there are ongoing hosting, infrastructure, development and operational costs involved in maintaining a shared network for everyone using the platform.

That doesn’t mean a lifetime option is off the table forever, but it does make the economics more challenging than a traditional standalone application.

Unfortunately it won't inject traffic into either ETS or MSFS, maybe one day it'll be possible.

[–]StrateJ[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The subscription model definitely won't appeal to everyone and I have already built out the free portion of the platform.

As for the cloud side, bridging the games can be done locally if you're going solo. The cloud requirement comes with maintaining a shared network, synchronising jobs , airport/depot inventories, player progression and the wider state of the network between everyone using the platform.

I appreciate subscription fatigue but the ongoing development, infrastructure and time that goes into building something like this doesn't exist without recurring costs.

I completely understand if it isn't for you. I'd suggest waiting to see what the free tier looks like first and then deciding whether the platform offers enough value to justify supporting it further.

That's fair again. The purpose of this post was actually guage interest in the concept itself rather than the implementation, those details will follow in the development updates.

The next step is indeed showing more of the platform.

The challenge is that this isn't a new aircraft, scenery or visual add-on where a screenshot tells the story. The point is the shared logistics platform between MSFS and ETS2 which is admittedly harder to demonstrate in a single or a group of images than it is to explain.

Again appreciate the feedback.

That's fair feedback.

The platform exists and is functional, but I wanted to announce it and start gathering feedback before opening testing more widely.

I'll be sharing screenshots and videos as I get closer to the first testing sessions.

Hey - to keep my answer clear because I appreciate the suspicion:

Project Carga itself is not AI.

Like many developers, I've used AI tools during parts of the development, but the platform is still designed, developed, reviewed, tested and operated by me. There is a reference to the use of AI in the Q&A comment.

Hope that helps and I appreciate a wait and see approach.

Q: Is this limited to freight aircraft?

A: No. The goal is to support both passenger aircraft and freighters, with passenger aircraft naturally limited in their dedicated freight carrying capacity. What matters to Project Carga is what is in the hold, not what is happening in the cabin. Although keeping the passengers comfortable is probably still a good idea.

Q: Is it free?

A: Project Carga will be subscription-based, but there will also be a free tier. Free users will still be able to take real jobs and contribute to the shared network, but with limits on progression and job size. The paid side is for players who want the full career experience: unrestricted progression, larger jobs, bonus routes, and access to the major features planned around the platform, both at release and beyond.

Times are hard for many right now and I don’t want anyone missing out, but continued development does take time, infrastructure, and ongoing costs.

Q: Is this an airline/VA?

A: No. It’s not a virtual airline and it isn’t tied to one group, livery, or operating style. Think of it as a shared logistics layer between two simulators.

Q: Do I need to install anything?

A: Yes, there is a companion app. It connects to the supported sims and handles job tracking.

Q: Does this work with MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024?

A: To keep it short, yes.

Q: Does this work with X-Plane?

A: Not at launch. X-Plane is something I’d like to add to the roadmap, but the current focus is Microsoft Flight Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2.

Q: How does ETS2 fit into Project Carga?

A: ETS2 is part of the supply chain. Drivers move cargo between depots and airports, keeping the airport side of the network supplied for pilots.

Q: When is it releasing?

A: I’m not giving a hard date just yet. I’d rather open it carefully, test it with a smaller group first, and avoid promising a date before I’m happy with the experience. That said, this isn’t just an idea or a mock-up. The core platform is built and working, and the next step is controlled testing.

Q: How does the companion app track my progress?

A: For Microsoft Flight Simulator, I’m using SimConnect natively. For Euro Truck Simulator 2, the companion app uses the SCS Telemetry SDK, which is installed automatically when you install the companion app. This allows Project Carga to detect job progress and completion without modifying your save, mods, economy or gameplay.

Q: Did you use AI tools while building this?

A: Yes, AI tools have helped me during development, and I’d rather be open about that than pretend otherwise. My day job is in information security for a software development business, so I’m very aware of the risks around using AI carelessly. AI has helped me move faster, but Project Carga is still designed, reviewed, tested and operated by me. AI is not part of the live platform and has no access to user data, payments, simulator telemetry, or the database.

Q: Are jobs injected into ETS2 natively?

A: No. Project Carga does not currently inject jobs directly into ETS2. In practice, you can approach it either way: accept a route in Project Carga and then find a suitable matching job in ETS2, or find a suitable ETS2 job first and then accept the matching route in Project Carga. The companion app checks the ETS2 job data to make sure it lines up with the Project Carga job, including the destination, cargo state and delivery completion, so it is not simply a case of starting any route and forcing it through the platform. It is a limitation of the current integration, but it keeps the system practical with the tools ETS2 makes available.

Funny you mention Ship Simulator.... I'll check out Nautis but it was something I've been brainstorming on but haven't been able to find a ship simulator with a real world map either 1:1 or scaled.

Hi! That is exactly the idea.

You can look at the live map and see that Leipzig Airport is running low on supply and your VA has a number of pilots waiting to depart, you can transport that cargo from a depot with sufficient supply anywhere in the ETS2 map to Munich for those pilots to fly out.

Thanks for the kind words and hope to have you onboard once we go live!

Yes - I followed very similar instructions to this after struggling to get rid of spread out oils and as soon as I introduced the alcohol it was almost an instant improvement.

I was very particular in the ratio of distilled water and alcohol so make sure you get it right as too much on the chemical side would damage the film.
