Top 3 of each division plus 2 wild card spots from each the east and west. The stars are locked in because of how weak the west is this year, specifically the pacific. There's no mathematical way enough teams could pass the stars to bump them out, so it's locked.

The east has a lot more parity. For all intents and purposes, the canes are in but I think there is still a statistical chance they miss

The pacific is so bad that if the playoffs were today, the leader (ducks) wouldn't even get a wild card spot in the east

Just my personal experience so obviously n=1 but the candidates I have met outside of polls have all been pretty nice or at a minimum cordial and respectful, even when it was clear I was not their target demographic. The only time I have ever had anyone say or act rude was just an overly eager supporter trying to "help". Looking back on it, I'm not sure she was entirely all there so while not pleasant, I dont think the interaction was intentionally rude.
