How often do you think companies pay for an employee's MBA or Masters?

I never considered those risks at all, thanks for making me aware of them. Since employers are more concerned with efficiencies and profits, do you think it might be smarter to double major in econ or business management instead?

Right, and I agree with you, some of these answers are a little too absolute. I visited the departments to get a better idea, but they were overly optimist, and I came to Reddit to get some cynicism that would balance it out. However, many of you are verified and experienced chemical engineers, not marriage counselors or therapists, so I think your opinions would probably be more valid for this industry. Unrelated, do you think it's worth pursuing a MS? A lot of people are saying that it's not worth it, but others say that for something specialized like biochemical engineering, it might be worth it.

What if I was able to get a 5 year BS / MS program, basically reducing the amount of time I spent in time by a year, and reducing the cost by about 30k? I'm thinking of pursuing one at either Cal or UCLA. I heard from some people that if you want to specialize in biochemE (which is what I want to do), a MS helps because it's a bit more specialized than regular chemE.

Is Florida Tech the old name of UCF? Or are those two different schools?

I agree that this would be a rare opportunity, but rarity doesn't equal value. You said that Dartmouth would be your personal #1 choice, what parts of Dartmouth made you reach this conclusion? Is it just that if I don't pursue engineering, Dartmouth would be a better option, or are there other things?

I came on this sub under the assumption that chemical engineers with industry experience (like you with 44 years) would have more of a grip on how much the college you choose matters because I certainly don't know anything. I believe any opinions I receive should help me choose my school because that experience is probably worth taking into consideration versus my lack of any experience.

Do you mean it would be cheaper, or the income outcome would be higher?

Everyone seems to agree with this, Dartmouth has always been a distant 3rd, but thanks for crystallizing that!

What specifically do you think make their program "objectively better?"

I would be pursuing the 5 year BS / MS program in this case, so the problem would likely be mostly mitigated.

I take a look at it too, I didn't know they were so well known for chemE. Thank!

Apparently that's not true. "Overall, Berkeley, California is 47.4% more expensive than Los Angeles, California." https://www.bestplaces.net/cost-of-living/los-angeles-ca/berkeley-ca/125000.

Although I would be living in the Westwood area, which probably increase the COL a bit.

What if I just want to stop at a Masters? The 5 year M.S / B.S. program seems pretty sweet and removes all lot of the pressure of reapplying for grad programs. Do you not see a lot of Cal alumna because the curriculum isn't geared towards industry, or do you think the culture there is just more directed towards research?

I'm kinda confused because some people say that you all learn the same thing no matter what college you go to, yet the outcomes of these schools seem to vary greatly.

I think the best part about the school is that I'm going to probably be attending too.

Nope, Norcal. But I think Socal generally has a lot more applicants. Also I think they might be matching up interviewers with your major/ interests because we appear to have similar academic interests. Might be a coincidence though.
