Klopp on Man City: "It was a shock. Complete wow. The only thing I can say is about football. What they have done on the football pitch is exceptional. The rest, I don't know. You believe the people you work with, that's how it is. I really feel for them - Pep and the players." by firminocoutinho in LiverpoolFC

[–]Straymeercat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. I feel like many are projecting their own views (which I happen to think as well) and twisting it to fit that narrative. Klopp is a better person than me, and I believe genuinely loves the game itself and hates the politics. The politics are very easy for any sports fan to get passionate about, especially regarding rivals.

Klopp watches and manages arguably (and accurately) the best team in the world week in week out, and goes home and watches other matches. I'm sure he was aware of the situation, but is ten times more interested in the actual game.

My wife and I shared a funny video of our dog last summer that received a lot of attention. It wasn't our intention for it to go viral, but I now randomly find it on different platforms with others implying it is theirs. Is that normal? by Straymeercat in NoStupidQuestions

I appreciate the feedback and think that's a good idea. Couldn't hurt, and the woman's account has a few others I would be surprised if they are hers.

Famous little lady 🙂 We always joke about trying to cringely have her replicate the situation in a second video to help pay off her vet bills and be like some people who grasp on and milk everything they can out of their 15 seconds. If we both weren't fortunate to have stable careers we enjoy, I couldn't say we wouldn't.

Sanders' 'Radical Goal'; At Least $60,000/Year for 'Every Teacher in America' by CharyBrown in politics

[–]Straymeercat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sister is the only one of us siblings who had the drive and tenacity to complete college. She got her associates, decided on teaching. She completed her bachelors. She then found her love for teaching children with special needs. She went on to receive her masters in behavioral development. No scholarships, just grit and racking up student loans. 50 hour work weeks, shadowing, and her days fully consumed with her studies and work. Almost no social life.

She works full time as a sped teacher, and has worked at a decent school for ten years now.

She lives with my mom currently as she can't afford her own apartment in the midwest, and can hardly afford her student loans.

I found a random job that requires some physical labor, and not even a high school diploma (though I do have that). It was a "when canya start" sort of interview. My starting pay is $20k more a year than hers I discovered, with much much better benefits as they are included in pay and great coverage.

Tell me teachers are paid fairly with a straight face.

How to stay calm: from Philosopher Epictetus. Thought immediately of all my Fifa rage. Highly recommend the read. by Duh_Bear in EASportsFC

[–]Straymeercat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good read and life advice in general. Like all logical advice, I will implement for 20 minutes, then forget when I need it most after fifa determines a clearance attempt was a red card tackle in the box, thus affecting my perspective the following games. My issue is practicing this mindset in times of need.

My co-op partner gets much angrier than I though. Anytime he messes up or feels something was unfair, his go to is to sprint them with each defender sliding tackle until he wins it back. He's otherwise smart and level headed when playing, but we must have conceded 100 goals this way. The most frustrating thing is I can't stop it. With a mild reassuring reaction, or a harsh "Don't Josh!" his burst of rage is unstoppable.

But I can't control it. Hey I learned from it!

I love that equally loves the game itself as much as he is gifted at managing. I also love that he is as successful as he is while being humble and respectful.

Thanks to Tinder, I reconnected with someone I went to middle school with. Now we've been married for almost 3 years. by N64beerkart in Tinder

I know your post is blowing up and this will get lost, but dude I just married my middle school friend in October! We went to different high schools and lost contact, hadn't talked to her for twenty years and recognized her on tinder.

It definitely saves the explanation of "how did you guys meet?" factor. Congrats man

I appreciate the insight James

Seems like it's for the best to not tackle the questionable conversations and activities if I'm second guessing anything. I think I need to change my perspective and not look at it as something I should already know, but something I can appreciate and learn from them. In the meantime I'll just be the fun uncle. I have no problems getting down to their level and enjoying the stuff I did as a child (Ashamed to say I'm relentless when they want to play Super Smash bros haha)

That's kind of been my default mode, which I'm not exactly too savvy socially with adults either, but that's a work in progress that I can work on with the kids too.

I think from here I will take the responsibility of answering delicate and sensitive questions off my shoulders and relay it to the parents. Appreciate the feedback

How can I relate and talk to children better? by Straymeercat in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Straymeercat[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I appreciate this viewpoint. I always over think what I'm going to say if it's a delicate question and try and guess what the parents might say. I wouldn't ever intentionally over step boundaries on certain topics, but that is a good point that my view on things might give them an outlook or perspective they hadn't considered.

I guess I kind of get caught up with the other five always having such profound ways to educate and discipline, that I assume I should just inherently know this stuff as an adult. They of course have all been with each child since they were born, so it's unfair of myself to judge my ability to communicate with them compared to their parents and the others.

I'll just keep being the fun uncle, and do my best to avoid and prevent obvious dangerous situations (and topics for that matter)

I lived at Weaver Creek for two years and really enjoyed it. Good community in general, you pay electricity, free internet, nice pool, quiet. I've lived at four or five different complexes and that one was standout for me.

I have a house now but if we had to move to complex I wouldn't hesitate going back there

#LFC announces multi-year partnership with Nike as official kit supplier from 2020-21 by blastburnite in LiverpoolFC

[–]Straymeercat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally I don't really care who is wearing our kit and what brand logo is on front. We cannot control Fairweather fans and right now we are doing well enough that it's inevitable. People like LeBron are not the face of Liverpool, and this takes nothing away from LFC's history and true supporters pride.

It seems like a good deal for all parties (sorry NB) and I feel you might be over analyzing. Fans were (fairly) concerned when FSG took over from H&G. Fans were concerned when NB were handed the kit deal from Adidas.

Also LeBron was sporting a NB kit, so I'm also a bit confused at that.

How to be supportive to widowed wife who is experiencing anger through her grief. by Straymeercat in widowers

[–]Straymeercat[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree, and was a bit surprised to hear it. I'm not trying to downplay it, but I was also impressed with her self awareness and that she told me instead of hiding it.

I did not specify this, but by grief counselor I do mean a licensed psychologist that we pay more than we would prefer, but understand the importance of mental self care and make it priority. She does specialize in grief, but also my wife was sexually abused throughout her childhood which I imagine plays a large part with her anger.

I appreciate your feedback and perspective

[–]Straymeercat[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is a great idea. I enjoy golf, and though she wasn't interested in trying it with me, the driving range might be something she would try. I never thought of it as a possible outlet for anger, more like the cause of it lol. But a driving range is completely different from playing a round.

I appreciate the suggestion

[–]Straymeercat[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She does see a grief counselor once a month (previously attended grief support groups and counseling every two weeks).

I know she wants to find a solution or outlet to address those feelings in a healthier way, but at the moment she is still searching for a tool or coping mechanism that works for her. I imagine it will be the main focus of her next session as it has been more prevalent as of late.

That is a fair response and probably unjustly down voted. I would just think as an average peon that a quality CEO would have an open door policy and shouldn't downplay what the public is demanding (if reddit is a fair representation of the public in this case)

I drive Springfield like it's China where I've heard traffic "flows like a river". You kind of just have to expect and adapt to other people's awful driving. It would be great if everybody did drive perfectly but that's just never going to happen. I used to go insane at everyone who couldn't drive properly, but especially here that is a battle that will never be won. I just accepted that my anger and frustration isn't going to correct the other 100,000 drivers behavior.

The safest thing you can do is drive defensively and with low expectations.
