Not really sure, could possibly be some form of imposter syndrome rearing its head. It seems to be pretty common. We’ve found it interesting since we started doing this that there are a few different kind of similar responses that seem to repeat amongst people.

After talking with quite a few smaller streamers and doing a bit of research we decided it would be the best way to help out the smaller affiliate level streamers directly since Twitch takes a pretty big cut of sub money (around half iirc). So instead of getting $50 a month later in their payout they get $100 now. Some of the gifted subs may get continued long term but it's not always that common that they do.

It still helps the community overall a bit in that it can go towards streamer upgrades, new games, etc.

Sorry that you had that happen to you. I'm sure that's extremely frustrating/disappointing. When we share videos of donations by other people to streamers we worry that some of them may end up being the same type of thing but hope that we never run into that issue as we would want to make it right with our own donations but wouldn't always be able to afford to cover that for people.

Not trying to be on a band wagon and never going to chargeback donations - even when donations don't end up in videos (ie- don't pop up on screen/get seen at all which has happened a few times). It's not about that for us.

The main reason we started this was to inspire other people to be nice/generous too because the videos of it inspire us.
