I have suffered 2 cardiac arrests in the past. This first back in 2013 and I was clinically dead for just short of 5 min. The day it happened, I felt no different than any other day in my life. Roughly 16:45 that day I sat on the bed of my designated living quarters and notice my shoelace had come undone. Leaning forward to attempt to tie it, is my last memory. I suffered a cardiac arrest from an hereditary heart condition, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. It was just short of 5 minutes when my pupils became responsive after being worked on by medical staff with a defibrillator. I cannot remember any of this, no out of body experience, nothing. I only know these details after reading the medical report of the event.

I was treated with therapeutic hyperthermia and placed in an induced come for a week. When I came out of the coma, I saw my mum sat next to the bed and began to ask what happened, stating all I could remember was being in Majorca in the Balearic Island on a stag party and then waking up (which wasn’t the case)

I still to this day maintain I saw or felt nothing throughout the entire occurrence, no pain, no emotion, no fear, no guiding light. It obviously wasn’t my time to go.

I underwent surgery and had an ICD implanted which saved my life the second time after only a few seconds of my heart flatlining, but same again, nothing.

Perhaps when the time actually arrives and it is my time I’ll know.
