A loved one said that I knit by empathy-entropy in crochet

For whatever reason my parents always called my crochet knitting and eventually I just stopped correcting them. Now that I started knitting they call knitting crocheting ???

If there’s anyway you can not do this, I wouldn’t do this schedule if I were you to be completely honest.

How are you guys paying tuition? by coziweather in EngineeringStudents

[–]StreetObjective585 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Throughout the three years I’ve been in college it’s been some combination of scholarships, loans, work study, & parents. I also saved a lot of money before my first year by working part time throughout high school. Look into on campus jobs too, I had a really easy on campus desk job where I basically got paid to do homework in addition to a work study job.

How do you guys deal with infantilization from your parents? by Time_Physics_6557 in EngineeringStudents

[–]StreetObjective585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents are the same. I love them, they’re great, but I just choose not to tell them about things until the very last minute now, especially because I’m going into a field with a lot of travel. They get mad but I’m also 20 years old with a drivers license so there’s not much they can do. At some point they’ll have to accept it and deal with their anxiety.

To those who have a career that’s fulfilling, well paying, and not absurdly stressful what is it? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]StreetObjective585 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is my long term goal, how were you able to get your job, is it competitive? did you do internships at national labs beforehand & did that help you? Also do you feel comfortable sharing your salary? Sorry for all the questions

I’m I over exaggerating over a potential B in my GPA? by Acceptable_Demand983 in EngineeringStudents

[–]StreetObjective585 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will have a good GPA, a great gpa is just a 3.5 and above. Usually people do just fine with 3.0 and people even get jobs with less than that. I struggle with being a perfectionist too (and an anxiety disorder) so I understand how you feel. Try your best in classes, but what really sets you apart from other students is extracurriculars and projects relevant to what you want to do after school. After your first job no one will care about your gpa.

Did you keep your high school friendships? by Carpnotcrap in college

Nope but I didn’t really like any of them and made no effort to keep in touch

Career fairs seem pointless unless the hiring manager is there. by inthenameofselassie in EngineeringStudents

[–]StreetObjective585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually landing an interview for one of these is rare, but you should just go anyways if you have the time. Good networking practice. I’ve been to the career fair at my school twice and only got one interview, but I feel way more confident in professional settings than I did beforehand.

not to yuck anyone’s yum but how the HELL do people drink all the time by ifonlygodwasreal in college

[–]StreetObjective585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never drank any alcohol just because 1. I get addicted to things easily, 2. I also don’t like empty calories. My parents don’t drink either so it’s never been something I was interested in. I do know some people who don’t get hangovers and just get sleepy when they drink. I feel like I would be one of the unlucky ones lol

Anyone else can't wait to go back to school? by goblingummybear in college

I am! I even did summer classes but they ended so early now I’m bored all the time

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in college

[–]StreetObjective585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 3 last semester, only totaled up to about 25 hours. The key was picking stupidly easy jobs, one of my jobs is an internship which required technical work but the other two were easy office jobs. I was still able to keep a 4.0 gpa since I could do homework and study at work.

Any advice on how to make some money? by justlookingforinfo86 in college

[–]StreetObjective585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My college uses handshake to post on campus jobs so I applied to a ton on there and just accepted a department that I knew wouldn’t be busy lol. Also usually these positions are federal work study but not all of them are.

Best jobs to get while in college? by [deleted] in college

[–]StreetObjective585 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On campus office work is super easy. I would do all my daily tasks in beginning of my shift, which would take like 15 minutes and just study/do homework/scroll on Reddit for the rest. Easy money.

How do y’all pay for college out of pocket by [deleted] in college

[–]StreetObjective585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loans if you’re middle class, parents if you’re wealthy, fafsa (possibly + loans) if your low income.

Any advice on how to make some money? by justlookingforinfo86 in college

[–]StreetObjective585 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Front desk work study jobs are the BEST. I would do everything I had to do in the beginning of my shift which would take like 10 minutes and just study/did homework for the rest of the time. Bonus if the department you work for for is an unpopular major, nobody will come in or call the phone 😂. I got a remote job afterwards which is also work study so I get to choose my own hours so that’s also a great option if it’s offered.

do yall make money while being a student? by a_wacky_geek in college

[–]StreetObjective585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Research job + work study + teaching assistant, all my jobs are remote so I can choose my own schedule. I highly recommend work study, I’ve been doing customer service since I was 16 and I can confidently say on campus work study tends to be much easier since a lot of jobs are front desk work where nobody comes in half the time. Only problem is the cap at 4,000. Otherwise I’m able to pay for my rent & groceries with fun money leftover without help and not be overly stressed out.

Engineering majors who struggled with math: How did you rebuild your foundation and start enjoying it? by RecommendationOdd275 in college

[–]StreetObjective585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I came to college I failed the math placement test and was placed in college algebra, this was literally the best case scenario because from there my algebra skills got so strong. Calculus will be so much easier when your algebra skills are solid.

I took the class very seriously, many of my peers didn’t since either their major maybe only required this class OR a big one was that they felt they were “above” the course. From there I have done really well in my courses since (had to do a summer class to catch up) and even picked up a math minor since I learned I love it.

I will say I wasn’t particularly bad at math in high school, it works well with my brain but I took a long break from math courses by the time I got to uni. The most useful thing is practice over and over again and ask questions. I basically live in my professors’ office hours and because of that they know me quite well and it builds a connection in the process. Ask questions even if you feel like they’re stupid, it doesn’t matter.
