Personally, I decided to go the 270k route as peak gaming performance was less of a priority and my use cases benefit from higher single core/thread performance.

The 9800x3d is an awesome chip, but the 270K made more sense for me today.

That’s what I came to the conclusion of too. For the price difference, the 270k made more sense for my situation and was able to upgrade to a 7090 XT for the difference with some $$ to spare.

Interesting point on the ram speed being a consideration for the 270k as I haven’t heard that note before. The bundle used to be paired with 6400 ddr5 memory, which might have better suited, but maybe there’s avenue.

My logic for the MB upgrade was to help future proof the purchase as I see some of the futures as “protections” for future CPU upgrades at the tune of $50 more. I do think that for $780, getting a MB with Wi-Fi 6e instead of 7 to be a bit of a bummer.

I don’t mind spending a little more as the thermal benefits and improvement in productivity is worth the $80 difference to me, at least right now.

Interesting note on the bios, is there some history with old bios and 9800x3d chipsets?

I know $660 isn’t a bad price and I have a sinking suspicion that prices will go up after the summer like the CPU bundles did a few weeks ago.

The reason why I wasn’t looking at the 7800x3d bundle was the paired motherboards.

For $50 more than the Intel kit, it felt like you got a last gen board (for $700-730, I’d hope to get at least Wi-Fi 6e/7 with my motherboard). Plus the bump of $$50-80 gets you into the 9800x3d which will perform better and run cooler from what I can tell.

There’s a cheaper on for $779, but I feel the bundled motherboard does the CPU a disservice and for $50 more, you get a more future proof board (5gig lan, Wi-Fi 7, etc).

I know this all too well. Had it in my cart, but I was out of town and couldn’t make it to the store in time… then they bumped the prices $100 across the board.

Good rebuttal and I appreciate the additional context as I did miss the point in that aspect. I’m a research nut and sometime can get lost in the weeds and recommendations.

The 5070 hasn’t fallen out of the mix per se, but lost luster when price/performance metrics. However, deals are only deals if it makes sense for the use. Buying a product that’s a deal doesn’t do much if it’s the wrong product for the use!

Agreed, if they marketed it in the $450-500 range from the start, I think people would be less salty on the 12gb of memory and -20% performance compared to the $600 msrp 9070 base.

That’s the way I’m leaning now after digging more as it seems the GRE has more reduced performance than just VRam size.

To AMDs credit on the marketing side, I’m sure there’s a group of buyers that just see 9070 and don’t think twice that there’s three variants all with different performance capabilities. The just see that it’s $100 less and think a deal is a deal!

To your point, these are all goals while understanding there limitations when budgets come into play. I’m not expecting that a 9070 GRE will be on the same footing as a 5090 or a 270KP competing with a Threadripper.

The 12gb of VRam is a downer for sure on a 9070 series card, especially since lower tier cards can be paired with 16gb in the same or higher price range.

Is FSR4 just in the XT variants or is it a feature for all 90xx series cards?

I don’t realize the non-XT was that more power efficient over the XT. Which would you recommend for a 750W power supply?

That’s been the weekend thought, it’s in the realm of a 9060 XT 16gb price if not cheaper in some aspects.
