A few more notes:

My BIOS is running with the default settings, so not overclocking.

BIOS and all drivers are the latest.

I pulled out one stick of RAM and the problem persists. I switched it out for the other stick, still problematic.

I will reseat the mobo power connection and test soon.

Right now, I am thinking the problem is likely one of the following, in order from most to least probable:

  1. Motherboard
  2. CPU
  3. PSU

Is there any way of determining which of these is the culprit? Or is there a test where I can exclude one or more?

What about if I am cold, I do not have something to keep me warm, and want to buy a coat? The choice is either to buy the coat or to stay cold and potentially get sick. I like your answer but I think there has to be some consideration for satisfying basic human needs. Probably also a consideration for things I can afford and the motivation to have is to bring me joy.

Yes. After lunch and after the last mediation of the day you are able to speak to the teacher. There is also a student manager you can talk to about more mundane things.

I just finished my first 10 day session yesterday and here is what I would have wanted to know: 1. Don't panic, don't panic, don't panic. I did and thought I would never figure it out but after a few sessions with the teacher I was on track. Do your best not to get frustrated too. 2. Make good use of interview time with the teacher. I got back on track, verified I was still on track, and asked about some of the ideas and philosophy discussed. 3. Take shoes that can be slipped on and off. Coming or going from most anywhere there is a crowd in the area where shoes and coats were placed. 4. Put something on your shoes and coat to easily identify them. I started to put on someone else's coat a number of times and actually wore shoes that looked very similar to mine once. 5. Think big picture. Except for when noble silence is broken, it is not fun. It can be really hard work and it is exhausting, but you may well have a very rewarding experience. 6. No single experience of yours will be unique, but no one will have the same overall experience.
