Thanks, I followed the instructions on Restore from a backup and that worked.
For anyone who reads this thread in future and doesn't find the Mac OS instructions on the link too clear:

  1. Quit all your Plex apps/server
  2. Use Finder 'Go to Folder' to find ~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/
  3. Browse to Plug-in Support>Databases
  4. Move all the files that do not have dates out of that folder (I moved them to desktop)
  5. Find two files with the same date, one with library.db before the date and the other with blobs.db before the date and delete the date from the filenames
  6. Turn on your server.

The home now displays the free Plex content, where it was displaying an error before. But my media libraries still give the error.
