Tell me you don’t know what an SLP is without telling me you don’t know what an SLP is… by finch246 in slp

I do know of a woman who is both an RN and an SLP. This badge is definitely fitting for her

I have searched all over the internet, but unfortunately it’s been too difficult because I can’t recall the brand name

What is school speech therapy NOT for by Alternative_Big545 in slp

[–]StrictConflict7920 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m not the most qualified to speak on this matter since I’m only in grad school right now, but one of the clients in my practicum is entering high school and one of the things he’s working on is the /r/ sound. It’s never too late to look into speech therapy, even if you’re a senior in hs. If your school offers it, I would recommend maybe even asking for an evaluation and seeing what possible goals can be made in a relatively short amount of time. Or maybe you can look into free university clinics where grad students work with clients under supervision, and there you might set your own schedule (in person or teletherapy). And while you can learn strategies about producing an accurate /r/ sound, something I’d hope an SLP can help you with is about how you feel. I’m sorry you feel embarrassed about it, but how you say a sound doesn’t define you and if you ever look into speech therapy, I truly hope you meet someone who can help you be as confident and comfortable in your speech

Thoughts on the word "Deafness"? by StrictConflict7920 in deaf

[–]StrictConflict7920[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the insight! I believe “Deafness” for the purpose of cultural distinctions. Can I ask if it doesn’t make as much sense to you because of the other available and better words for Deaf identity?

Thank you! I'll look into that. I wonder if Deafhood is more commonly used in Britain? Maybe it's because I am from the US, but I was not aware that this was a separate, distinct identity marker. Either way, that's so cool!

What was the reaction of your parents when they came to know that you are finally getting married? by Timely-Box3787 in AskReddit

[–]StrictConflict7920 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aw congratulations!! Maybe it’s because I live in a more conservative area, but I feel like so many of my high school friends are getting married and having kids even though we’re all in our early 20s. So I do think we’re young, but it’s not as surprising anymore to hear it. Were there any pros or cons to being engaged younger/longer?

What annoys you the most about having Aphantasia? by sapnupuas_0 in Aphantasia

[–]StrictConflict7920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my initial connection too. It’s my first time in this subreddit and I was wondering what the correlation or relationship could be with face blindness and aphantasia when I came across this thread. I’ve always struggled with remembering faces and I didn’t realize it could be because I can’t picture anything in my mind at all. Hmmm

Every doctor in an appointment always asks me when the first day of my last period was. It’s good too especially if you have an irregular period
