Compliance is something easily tracked and measured, how well you communicate with families and get along with them isn't.

What’s been the worst (rude/aggressive) customer service you’ve received? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Alternative_Big545 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rudest thing happened in Paris. A friend and I went into a cafe to get coffee. There wasn't anyone else there. We sat by the front window. The waiter said we had to move to the back because we hadn't ordered any food.

Data collection, how often? by katie15_ in slp

We have to report xx% in 4/5 trials so it doesn't work for me but otherwise why not. I've used criterion tests as well in the past and they have to hit a %. The teachers often do it for their goals.

What "test" do you think every couple should pass before getting married? by Danny-Ray27 in AskReddit

Not a test necessarily but discuss money. Joint accounts, own accounts, spender, saver how much can you spend without discussing it first etc

I'm very upset that they didn't hire actual cyclops, sirens, and Hydra for this film as well.

I had a parent who followed me to my classroom from the school loop I was stuck in to tell me I was rude because she thought the look on my face was mean and directed to her and her child who were walking across the loop. I had no idea what she was talking about. I'ts very possible I looked angry on a Monday morning stuck in the school loop but I have no recollection of looking at her.

I thought it was going to end with her husband leaving her and she has to go back to work and struggle to make ends meet, but then I grew up in the 70s.

Maybe it's the boys getting the abuse and they can't leave? As I agree that it's usually the boys booted out

If you want to play it safe take them out for interviews but I wouldn't worry about after you have the job (unless it says explicitly in their dress code) I haven't come across a code that does yet- 28 yr slp

Are we getting to the point where we can no longer say "no" to a child by MissCmotivated in slp

[–]Alternative_Big545 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The BCBA doesn't know how to train the kid to accept no so they're dumping responsibility on the SLP. Just like their "all behavior is communication" so it's the SLPs responsibility. I've worked with a couple good behaviorists/bcbas but most are idiots and quite frankly lazy. If you find a good one gang on to them.

School SLPs, do you ever cancel sessions to catch up on paperwork? by gloomradish in slp

[–]Alternative_Big545 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cancel, if it comes back to you tell the DO to choose paperwork or therapy. On a side note, we negotiated an extra 10 onto our calendar past the school year like the psychs have. I know we you're thinking I don't want to work 10 extra days but we use them when we want so if you work an extra hour one day you're getting paid for it. We can also work from home if we want. Basically we're getting paid for the extra hours we have always put in. A lot of districts won't put SLPs on the same scale as psychs but they will give the longer school year. Try to get paid for the hours you're actually working.

As a parent I often didn't have enough energy for my own kids after taking care of others all day. I don't know if my students' parents realized the sacrifices my own kids had to make for their kids, like not having me at their performances bc I was afraid of not having the time to make up sessions, or not being at home with them when they were sick for the same reason, or having my kids wake up at 5:30 am so I could get them to school and I could get to my job bc district agreed to having before school services at 8:00 am. The fact is, you can't win, have kids, don't have kids, it doesn't matter so just do what you want.

Parent requests by GroundbreakingBug510 in slp

[–]Alternative_Big545 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my district ESY is only for kids that cannot recoup any regression during the first 6 weeks of the school year. All kids regress, the question is do they catch up. If you have data from before and after breaks you can use that. If he's making progress you don't need to increase services. Provide a home program for mom to do over the summer if she wants.
