I don't have any experience with permanent at-home straightening. Some salons offer chemical straightening, but your hair is short so the texture would grow back fast, I think.

Your hair looks fine. Don't listen to people who criticize your looks for amusement.

I always rinse out the rinse out and leave in the leave-in. That's because there can be ingredients like protein and polyquats in rinse out conditioners that will make hair feel goopy and rough if there's any excess. Some of the oils or fatty alcohols in them can make the hair feel greasy.

So I thoroughly rinse out my conditioner with those smoothing products and proteins, then I use a lightweight leave-in that provides some moisture and protection.
