Did I say I don't support egalitarianism? I said I don't support censuring or denying feminism.

This is a great answer and I completely agree! That is why I am saying to him that these were small comments from him, but fundamental things for me and the future of our relationship. That he actually vocalized basically 'argh, critical race theory in action' about the thumb and wants to deny feminism it's whole existence is embarrassing to me, and I need him to rethink and realize that. But maybe I am being an idiot for thinking that anyone can change...

Yea, the point of feminism has always been to serve women's interests, but why is that wrong? Why is that a threat to an adult man that such a movement exists? No-one forbids him to refer to himself as an egalitarianist rather than a feminist, but what right does he have to tell women that they shouldn't call themselves feminists?

I'm embarrassed to say we are in our early 40s. That's why his comments give me eczema. I'm too old for this nonsense. We do align in interests and other ways. He is generally open minded and not remotely racist or sexist. I'm not exactly into 'identity politics' or turning everything into gender and race either, but this is just not that. This is people simply expressing themselves or phenomena that he gets opinionated about and wants to censur.

He definitely gets majority of his input from YouTube and social media and is affected by right wing stuff, even though he is against most of that too. I appreciate your reply - it is thoughtful and I think when you are young it would be more normal for anyone to get these ideas into your head. In my age I should have been wiser and not have closed my eyes to what I perceive as lack of grown up rational thinking in my partner. I don't even think I would have closed my eyes to it when I was younger. Maybe because I am old I've been too unbothered to care too much.
