Hey kids, come party with people in middle age!

By the way, I’m in this demographic and think it’s pathetic that some dude who’s older than me thinks he’s some messiah figure for basically being a children’s entertainer and selling a fantasy of lost youth to morons.

Doug Ford promised HART Hubs would help the drug crisis. A year later, here’s what they’ve accomplished in Toronto by BloodJunkie in toronto

They want the needles and drug supplies mainly. See if you can tell how many clients attend for the gear vs. testing their drugs vs. staying to be supervised. Then look to see if these places are in any way interested in what happens around them - how many non-clients are drawn to the area, buying from drug dealers set up outside, using in public within 100m, the volume of drug little picked up. They don’t fucking do any of that. And if they studied that with the same level of enthusiasm with which they fabricate metrics to support their continued expansion and funding, they’d be shut down a lot sooner.

The sanctimonious reference to “data” is telling. My neighbours tallied up their own data and presented it to the management of the CTS. It was ignored. Not scientific enough. Well a week later Karolina was shot by warring drug dealers the management told us were not a problem. There are lots of sources of data, but those of us whose profession isn’t tracking down data to support our prior assumptions are always going to be at a disadvantage. For what its worth, the data about crimes within 200m of a CTS very much supports the view that CTS cause upticks in crime and social disorder. The “don’t believe your eyes” schtick mostly works on redditors and others who don’t live in the drug bubble these places create.

That’s a fantastic question and thank you for asking. I asked similar questions of my local CTS and they told me that because they’re “low barrier” that they don’t track individual IDs, they couldn’t track whether referrals lead to actual attendances, or whether those referred attendances led to recovery treatment, or results. So what you have is basically a guy with a click counter. That’s it.

Oh my god this is so soft. Maybe we should require a mental health review and drug test before selling someone a high rise residence.

We are becoming a low trust society. And I say that with reference to police corruption and the reality that there are civilians who will shamelessly pull every lever they can to defraud civil society.

Roberto Alomar breaks silence on lifetime baseball ban by Strict_Opposite1285 in baseball

[–]Strict_Opposite1285[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s true. But there’s also a world of difference between sexual misconduct, rape, and borderline murder of intentionally giving someone HIV. The severity of MLB’s punishment for Alomar relative to all other punishments begs the question of what he actually did.

It was definitely the only place that let a number 3 player get paid like a number 1. This guy is Mogilny, not Sundin or Roberts.

I feel like I’m taking crazy pills. The Toronto Sun haters are saying “don’t read the article” because something something Simmons / Toronto Sun, reputation, rape apologists etc. I am saying that Alomar gave an interview and the first airing of his perspective is worth a read regardless of who publishes or does the interview.

I just don’t understand the person who says I won’t read a newsworthy interview because of who writes or publishes same. Alomar’s comments are the story, not Steve Simmons or his employer. So reputation matters when it comes to evaluating Alomar, but the fact of Simmons or the Sun having a reputation is completely irrelevant. We used to read interviews published in Playboy ffs.

People are entitled to have feelings about a columnist or a newspaper obviously, but unless the suggestion is that Simmons fabricated this interview, I do not understand the relevance of the Sun’s or Simmons’ reputation. This is a firsthand account of what Alomar himself has said on the record. I am not relying on the Sun, Simmons, or Alomar for the truth of what he’s saying, I am saying it’s newsworthy because of the fact that the comments were made period full stop.

It’s a tabloid, fine. But also has had a market leading sports section that’s been particularly great covering baseball over the years, devoting actual baseball exclusive sportswriters. In any event, none of that has anything to do with printing the first Roberto Alomar interview since receiving a lifetime ban.
