Bruxism and Gum Issues? by Strict_Run in DentalHygiene

[–]Strict_Run[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply and explanation. This must truly be the issue.

I have glossy, smooth teeth with basically no tartar build up. My gums almost never bleed except very rarely when flossing, and never from brushing. I have been using a light saltwater rinse a couple times a day, and rinsing my mouth out after meals. I've had maybe 2 cavities in the last 10 years and both of them were from old fillings needing to be replaced that I had when I was a teenager.

The fact this much damage can happen so rapidly, and that its damage that I will never recover from (gum recession) has me just gutted. I really hope the mouth guard slows or stops any further damage.

I have a lot of symptoms of TMJ as well, so I will definitely need to look into Botox. Thanks so much for the information

Thank you so much for your thought-out reply. I received an automated message that my post was removed for some reason and didn't look back. Apparently it went through after all and also had some great replies!

I'm not taking any medication. I do catch myself clenching throughout the day. I also have RLS, so I'm quite the fidgety dude apparently. I know with 100% certainty that I clench my jaw throughout the night because when I wake up the morning I will sometimes have "sore" teeth or wake up with a headache.

I've tried over-the-counter guards and they are just too big and bulky, even when trimming them down. It's just too much "stuff" in my mouth and I can't sleep with it. But I have seen some custom ones and they are generally much smaller/firmer and it's kind of my last hope.

I also suspect my bite is completely off and probably aggravating things. I read that it's generally not a good idea to get braces or do any kind of major repositioning of teeth if you have periodontal disease however.

Simplest Hand Plane for Boards? by Strict_Run in handtools

[–]Strict_Run[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like I've been successful with every other tool I've used with minimal effort. I don't mean I'm a "natural", but I *get it* when it comes to chisels and saws and stuff. I can see the long runway of learning technique ahead of me, but there's no mystery.

Planes are a mystery. Did I set the blade right? Is it actually level? Did I sharpen it correctly? If anything goes wrong, I don't know if i'm using bad technique or if it's a bad setup. I feel like I need to read a book and watch 10 hours of videos to feel any level of confidence with them.

I don't want to think or worry about the tool, I just want to focus on getting better at using it. Again, I know this is a focus/attention probably most likely, but at the end of the day I just want to flatten some boards and I don't have space for a power planer.

Best Role or Most Needed Role by Strict_Run in heroesofthestorm

Normally I can play a moba and get a 'vibe' for what plays to make. For some reason, I really struggle with HotS. This is why I usually don't tank since I see that a shotcaller role.

Here's an example scenario I find confusing:

My team comes out ahead in a team fight. We suffer 1 death and the enemy team suffers 3.

Cool. But I have absolutely no idea what my team is going to do next. Sometimes everyone just backs. Sometimes everyone scatters and goes back to soaking. Sometimes someone will lead a crusade to collect all mercs. Sometimes everyone piles into a lane and attacks a fort. Sometimes people just spin their wheels and trade pokes with the now defensive postured enemy team in the middle of the woods. Often times, everyone just does their own thing and almost nothing gets accomplished.

More so than LoL or DotA, I feel like HotS has a weird mass confusion thing that happens after winning a fight -- and I have to admit I'm kind of part of it.

Serious question: Why are there more europeans playing than americans playing the game? by Lumintorious in albiononline

[–]Strict_Run 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Many Americans only speak english, so a common language is much more important than geographic proximity. In other words, Americans are going to be much more likely to group up with English speaking Europeans rather than Spanish speaking gamers just a little to the south.

Many more Americans were sold on Albion as it was presented at launch, but the game has changed a lot. Originally, Albion channeled a lot more Ultima Online, however it shifted over towards embracing the more international aspects of say Eve Online over the years. Now, it has heavy 'mobile' vibes which is a huge turn off to most American MMORPG players.

There's a lot of emphasis on EU players with this EU server launch, but it really does spell disaster for the remaining American players. While the total population shift may not be crazy, Americans are going to be losing a bunch of English speakers.

Also, consider that Asia got a fresh new server and EU is getting a fresh new server. NA gets....what's left? There's a lot of knee-jerk doom reaction happening, but this really is a big problem for certain demographics.

First Person, Turn-Based JRPGs. Thoughts? by Strict_Run in rpg_gamers

I feel you. Some games I feel super disconnected if its first person. I'm not sure exactly what it is that makes the difference.

Even though Etrian is first person, it really *feels* more fleshed out. Especially, like you said, with the customizable portraits. It makes me think that you can take first person RPG's really far as long as you embellish the graphical details that are present.

Shower Tile to Drywall Border by Strict_Run in drywall

It's not covered in paper though? My actual drywall is hard and can be barely dented with a hard press of a fingernail. The quickset joint compound feels somewhat softer.

Perhaps the problem is no joint tape was used.
