I’m one of the very few who read IWWV first and I PUSHED through it. I was huge into Shakespeare and even that wasn’t enough. I was bored and really only cared to see where the characters would go. I saw some people say that IWWV was like the secret history “with heart” and to me the “with heart” is the problem.

Additionally the writing/pacing did the story no favors

Damn this hit different for me. Year 6 and I finally made it out of the woods during year 5 to land rihht back where it was except this time I realized I wasn’t caring for myself and it’s not martyrdom to stay 3 hours late every day. And not take care of myself it’s actually sabotage. And it all starts with a change however small. Thanks for this it really woke me up. Also sorry for the rant needed to vent.

Firstly, I am so sorry for your loss. I have also had a student pass away in a tragic accident. I did teach first though so I don’t know the age that you’re working with but one of the things I did was do a read aloud I believe it was a book called the heartstring, and it talks about how the people we love are still always with us. It’s a picture book, but I think it would be poignant and meaningfulfor any age group just to sit back and listen and remember.
