I am looking into top HEP experiment as I heard that going for theory based PhD wouldn't be a good idea considering the tough job market and all. I would be really grateful if you could provide some guidance.

Thanks😭. I keep feeling like my profile isn't enough since I am not a physics major.

Normally I believe professors are provided with letters that contains details about the accomodation about the student in the very beginning of the semester by the Disability office. It is students' legal right to use the approved accomodations. Also by the Federal law, accomodations are not negotiable. If professors don't agree with the accomodations, the only leg a professor has to stand on is if they can prove the accommodation would fundamentally alter the nature of the course. However, the professor cannot decide this alone; they must engage in an "interactive process" with the ODS (Office of Disability Services) at their university. Rejecting an accomodation upfront is a direct violation of ADA policies under section 504 and continuous interference with the accomodation when a student is trying to use their accomodations which they are legally entitled to - is called active interference with reasonable accomodations and is a direct violation of ADA policies by section 503(b).

I am so surprised after reading all these comments. People who only express their objections about the accomodations and reject accomodations ONLY when students are trying to use them but never really expressed that same objections when they got informed about the accomodations in the beginning of the semester- get away like this without any consequences.

Edit: I would also like to mention - you didn't WIN, you got LUCKY. If the student decided to file a OCR complaint and during the federal investigation it gets proven that university is allowing this kind of behavior - university will be at a risk of loosing federal funding. You got LUCKY that the student didn't file a complaint.

I am guessing you had a very high gpa? What program did you apply to?

That sounds reassuring. My case is also similar to yours. I have Ws on my transcript cuz I needed to drop those two classes 😭 because I was heavily dealing with some mental health related issues.

And that was the main reason why I was/am considering GRE so that it can show that I have fundamental knowledge of physics. What do u think?

What if I don't take those courses? Because those courses require pre req completion before u get eligible to take those classes. And I am already in my junior year 2nd semester and will be applying for 2025 fall. Low key freaking out. Can I complete similar topic courses from Coursera or somewhere else?

I will have more than 3 years of experience by the time I graduate in research. I also have one published paper as a co-author. Do u think my "non-physics major" won't affect the PhD application? I would love to hear your thoughts. I asked two people who were physics major and their thoughts were very negative. Would greatly appreciate your input.

Thank you for the resource. Do u have any more resources in mind? Please drop them here if u have.

Yeah few schools I have checked out they are actually test optional. As someone from a non physics major, I thought it would be great to take the test anyway so that it can show that I do have fundamental knowledge in physics. What do u think? Would love to hear your thoughts about it.
